I was going to post this in Killa-Can's thread about his Leman Russ Annihilator turret conversion. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas about how to make a mock-up Leman Russ turret. I was planning to make a Leman Russ Exterminator, and I was contemplating carving a new turret out of wood. That is however pretty challenging... does anyone have any suggestions regarding the construction of Leman Russ turrets? They don't really even need to resemble the real thing, to be honest. I contemplated trying to get a Predator turret off a bits website, and putting in two autocannons from a heavy weapons sprue... but that takes a lot of time to order up and have delivered, etc, and I like the idea of keeping costs low! Your thoughts?

Instead of ordering a Predator Turret from a bits site, could you not order a Leman Russ Turret from a bits site and then convert it how you wish? Other than that, Plasticard is probably the best way to go, might be easier to create one with that than carving one out of wood...
Bits sites and plasticard would be probably be the easiest.
GW turrets are simpler to build, but they cost more unless you trade bits with someone.
Plasticard takes more effort, but it's cheaper, the turret can be built however you like, and there will probably be leftovers that can be used for other projects.

Here's a couple pics of what I did for a turret for an Exterminator.
I took the assembled turret, sawed off the Battle Cannon, put a plasticard plate over it, stuck a couple pieces of cut card on the sides and top to enclose the blast shield, and slapped on some sawed-off Autocannons. All in all, an extremely simple mod!
