Welcome to Librarium Online!
Just what it says, I've been trying to make something for a fellow LO member after he bought be tons of awesome supplies, alphatwitch.
The idea is a simple piece of styrofoam, and I'm aware of the melting factor but with totally random sprays of PVA along the edges I can stop small sections of the terrain melting once painted.
After some light spraying to dissolve the areas between these covered sections it comes out looking like this.
It gives it a much more interesting texture, but of course it will require more layers of PVA to complete the whole look and make painting much easier on myself.
Alphatwitch sent me a bunch of tyranid sprues and spare pieces to help give it the right feel so I glued they on with simple PVA into dents in the side of the pool embankment.
The large white "splodge" in the centre is PVA currently drying, once this has set and become clear I will be gluing these boys to the inside of the pool and then filling the rest of the pool with PVA to cover them up as if submerged inside.
Just a quick 5 minute paint job, since they will be under layers of PVA most if not all of their details will be lost so there was no point in going overboard.
And last but not least snikrot came along to check it out, just for scale purposes.
I hope to get the perfect look with the PVA submerged rippers, I may cut them off at the heads, or talons at different intervals so they aren't all at the same phase.
I will be most likely giving it a VERY bright green color for the slime inside as no other color makes as much sense as it does.
Any other ideas or comments I'd love to hear it as its still WIP 'til I can at least buy more PVA!

That looks interesting and I like how you have done the dirt around it. The PVA may not dry clear and I think I tried to do what you are doing once before and the PVA took ages to dry. You can get it to dry faster by adding it in very thin layers instead of a huge blob. Here is a link you may find handy about making Tyranid reclamation pools.TerraGenesis: Tyranid Reclamation Pool It shows here how things like peanut shells can be very useful for Tyranid grossness.
Oh I've seen that a few times but it never really dawned on me how disgusting it looks.
So some sort of fake liquid might be the best way to go? Or the super thin layers? The problem is that each layer will need like a while day just to dry haha! I'll be here for weeks!
But thanks for checking it out.
P.S. I just woke up after leaving it for 6 hours while I slept and its still not dry, its very thick though and not as runny as it is fresh, so maybe by the time I get back from work it will be good?
It may dry by the time you return. However in my experience it takes days and days to dry, and i think you are way off in hoping it will dry after only one night's sleep. Also the surface will dry first. Because the surface dries first it forms an airtight seal over the PVA beneath. This leaves you with a cocoon of semi-dry PVA to look at. I also just remembered that as PVA in large quantities dries it's shape distorts. However this isn't in a cool, icky, Tyranid way but a big, useless dent kind of way. Smaller layers won't take as long as they sound and not anywhere as long as a puddle of PVA. There are other things you can do such as add a little green ink to the PVA to give it grossness of colour.
Well I was thinking of using this layer as the first colored layer to set the ton for the next few so if it doesn't dry that hard I'm not really fussed as long as the seal stays, I know about that problem too by the way, I had it happen with a lightbulb for my mek shop, dunno if you saw but the PVA absorbed the rust from a nail and turned orange.
Oh yes, PVA sucks up colour from things and goes funny. I think I saw it do it with ink from a blue ball point pen once. If you have any spare parts such as skulls or parts from the Zombie sprue they will work to help add stuff to the pool. A sign nearby saying something like 'no swimming' would be cool.
yeah, looks good so far omgitsduane! i'll get you some more PVA so you'll have plenty to do whatever with. as with the big tallons, i only had a couple spare, you dont get many extras and i usualy use them all as i prefer combat over range! we'll have to order some more over the net

Today I got a fair bit of work done on it, I added some spinefists to the sides of the big talons to just give it a little more oomph in that area, added all of the nodes I could and spread them best around the pool that I could.
Added a little more glue to the inner walls of the pool to smooth over those rough edges and started adding in some rippers
I painted up 4 more rippers today that are currently drowning in PVA, and will hopefully find more to use as the pool builds up!
after this layer dries I may start adding small chunks of random tyranids to give it that degenerating feel to the liquid, maybe even melt a few pieces into the layers and paint them as dissolving genetic material.
Anyway here is some pictures!
Little bit closer this time.
and maybe if you squint, you can see the poor rippers about to be turned back into sludge for the hives digestion.
this looks amazing!! what rules are ya gonna use for the piece duane?
PM me about Aurora Prime Vassal fights! Willing and ready!
I know you know what I think about the se of beaded white foam, so Im not even going to say anyhting on that subject. But wow many its looking really good. I like what you id with the rippers and Im sure once it gets more paint and such its going to look amazing. Good use of the macrrage piece as well.
