hello, one of my friends has given me a few marines to practice my paint scheme on them. The goal was to get a weather beaten and battle hardened look. Dark colors, lots of wash and dry brush. They were done quite hastily, and will have more metal / bits detail. Let me know what you folks think.
PS Still dunno what to do with the shoulders
I like your painting. Are you trying to create a sandblasting effect of marines being exposed to a desert environment? I might drybrush the shoulder pads using the same color scheme as the legs, but apply the brushstrokes in a horizontal direction.
PS: How did you upload your pictures in the format given? I have trouble displaying my attached pictures (a text url appears instead).
thanks for the comment. I'll try that shoulder idea out. As for the armor, I was trying to go for an almost rusted / worn armor look. For posting your pictures, try Photobucket. Once you've uploaded your picture there should be some image option links near the bottom of each picture. The one you want to use is "IMG SRC" and copy / paste it into your threads
Try stippling the shoulders. It basically involves having an old brush with the bristles played. Prep the brush as per drybrushing and then use the ends of the bristles as you poke the model. It gives a more pitted effect.

The "A Smart Player Will..." theory is a complete paradox. If we make an assumption that everything we do is outsmarted, then theoretically we can never win.
thanks for the tips, the stippling idea sounds cool, I'm going to give that a try.
Thanks for the advice. I will try this for the next batch of motivational posters (look under the Community "jokes" section).
I like the overall concept of the scheme you are going for. I think if you use some of that same green in the centers of the shoulder pads it would stand out more.
i actually really like this, very uniqe and it looks cool especially for a new painter...just listen to what everyone else has siad, clean up the base alittle, drybrush the sand on the base with some bleached bone, and itll be top notch
chaos marines have the chaos gods on their side, but space marines have games workshop on theirs
the bases will be cleaned up shortly - I just primed over the grass that my friend had on it when he gave the marines to me. I will upload a pic of my chaos lord in an hour or so when I get him finished up.
hey all just completed my chaos lord, took a long while to get him done, let me know what you think..
plus, i'm still new to the game and can't decide if i want to use daemon wings or not... let me know what you think about the model and wings.
I couldn't find light that would do these dark colors justice..
wings or not? lol
thanks for the comments =)
