I'm a new face to this forum and this is my first project in my quest to a truly unique Fleet which I have dubbed Ophidian.
I originally posted this along with the fluff for the unit in the Tyranid section of the forum. Under direction from leech I re-posted it here to get more feedback towards the conversion.
I'm looking to do extensive conversions to really bring my fleet to life. For my first in the line of many, want to see what kind of response I'm looking at for this unit.
I'm also Looking for some pointers from the veteran converters out there.
Here is the unit that I am starting from and intend to do a conversion to a Broodlord from him.
The current plan,
I intend to cut the arms off,
Cut the hands off of the sword, also cut the upper torso off at the chain line at his waist.
As well as to remove the feet from the lower shin guards.
From the top gauntlets I want to remove the wrist guards and attach them to some 3rd ed Stealer arms and extend them up to the claws.
I intend to inlay the back torso of the old stealer into his back after removing the pack. Then GS'n it into a clean edges to simulate the armor stretching to conform to the new re-constituted body structure.
Also add some sharp protrusions of carapace.
The waist I want to extend downwards to closer match the size of a Warriors upper torso in size. Now removing the cloth around on his front torso for now, GS'n some bone structure like that found on the front of a Warrior. Then remake the cloth.
The legs will then be spliced with a thickened stealers' lower leg joint to add height as well a a more alien feel. GS to clean up the connector.
Next step: The Arms.
First set up using the now converted upper stealer arms into the old shoulder pads.
Cut open just under where the arms should connect. This is to simulate the new set of arms making room for themselves, wont be clean to the armor. GS according to reflect this.
Re-attatch Upper torso.
Re-attatch the upper arms/shoulder pads.
Not really sure yet, probably create cranial protrusion behind the mask.
Potentially add some slime trails coming out of the front mask.
Shoulder pads: He used to be a dark Templar one of the emperors champions, Now he belongs to the hive, to show this I intend to do some deep cuts in sets of 3 as if a Stealer claw cut over the pads to show its aversion to its past life.
The final touches:
Fray the cloth, needs to have a worn down lax maintenance feel. Possibly some acid burns towards the top, where this drool is burning away the traces of his humanity.
The sword. Clasp it facing down with the right claw. have in pinned to the floor.
Sorry if this does not give a clear feeling what I'm doing with it, this will be a long In-Progress build. Before I start though I'd like to know if this seems reasonable.
This is my first big project is quite some time. He's going to be the figure head of my army until the heavier conversions kick in.
Eventually I hope he and his retinue of lost Dark Templar will serve as a reminder of just what the empire has lost in order to stall the Evermind in its progress across yet another galaxy.
Any and all criticism is welcome.
Do you REALLy want to us the 25th anniversary model for this conversion? :-) You could probably get a similar effect from a plastic space marine. Also - how does a marine become a Broodlord? genestealers Hybrids are born to human parents, true enough, but it is impossible for a genestealer hybrids to get inducted into the chapter, due to the rigours of chemotherapy and blood testing done.
check the fluff out. Its in the Tyranid section of the forum.
The current fluff I've written does not contain rationale for how it happened, but rather it explains what happened.
General Gist while I will eventually write into the fluff is that Ophidian (the hive fleet), Is not a splinter from Leviathan or Kraken, it is part of an early vanguard unit which functions under completely different methods that what the Empire has seen to date. What is assumed to be consistent across the board is no longer consistent here.
ALSO::ry for edits
I have 2 of the 25th anniversary models, so I felt if the Dark Templar can feel special with this unit, why not a Tyranid army

Lol - OK fair enough, will read the fluff and comment thee as appropriate...
Google Hive fleet Humanid and rise of the Humanids
It’s a whole army of converted Tyranids, well humans
that have been infected with Tyranid bio weapons. Might help you with ideas.
I also I found your fluff, slightly confusing………
I AM BOOMER!
Sorry bout the confusion with my fluff, wrote it up last night around midnight. Still little hazy, I intend to re-write it after the Lord and his minions are put together.
EDIT: Boomer, can you please elaborate too where the confusion is, I'm new to the whole fluff writing thing and any pointers would be greatly appreciated for my revision.

I love this conversion idea , its a big project (with the amount of work you have to do - not the size hehe) and i love the idea of a tentacle or talon potruding from the neck over the helmet with some acid type drool coming from the mouth peice - i LOVE that idea , as if he is being totally consumed from the inside with the alien forcing symbiosis!
keep it up , il be checking this regularly!
Thank you for the input Max.
I Hope he turns out as well as I envision him, but alas, I feel it will at very least come out as a striking addition to my army.
As well as be a keystone for the story of my hive fleet, Ophidian.
Update: Took off the models left arm and shoulder pad, as well as his feet, working on the right arm and shoulder pad, no pics yet. Sorry guys.
Getting a new camera tomorrow. Ill post pics tomorrow once I get my new toy
Phase 1 complete: Right arm is gone, taken off in two pieces, first the shoulder pad followed by the lower arm.
Took his feet off as well, the next shoulder Pad should be off tonight if that happens, the upper torso should follow pace.
Major issue atm, There is a gun holster under his still remaining arm, don't think I can remove the shoulder pad without taking the holster off. Here goes nothing
