I have a chaplain, but am kinda scared to start painting in fear of ruining it, so I have a couple questions, and maybe some of you can send in some pics of your own.
-How do i paint the armor so it doesn't look just like flat black?
-How do i paint the skull?
For the armour - slowly, going from black to grey edges. How light the edges get is up to you. For the helmet, get some Dark Flesh (or a good substitute), mix it with a dab of black and paint it on, then add some bleached bone and do another layer, should have to wait for it to dry, then another layer with more bleached bone etc until final highlight with some skull white added. If it starts to look too pink you may want to add some more black. Try painting a good blend on your mixing palette before painting onto the model.
Hope that helped!
How I paint black: (colours are approximate)
Basecoat in very dark grey (2:1 Black to Codex Grey)
Highlight the edges in a mid Grey (Codex Grey)
Shade the areas next to the edges with Black
For bone I simply blend from Black to Kommando Khaki and build up a grain with the same.
(like this guy's shoulder)
Up, up and away!
Thanks for the help, really appreciate it.
