Welcome to Librarium Online!
OK, well i have only painted two mini's lately. 2 Space marines in the Ultramaines blue with a white trim. Now How do you do the highlights and all those other cool things.
(Ill take some pics with my sisters cam when she gets home)
You've given me a blank canvas with this one but I'll keep it simple.
The two main ways to highlight would be layering and drybrushing. Drybrushing entails wiping most of the paint from the brush (hence dry) then brushing it over the model (hence brushing) so that it only deposits paint on the raised surfaces. Layering consists of building up highlights from a dark base leaving more and more of the shade colour in the receses in a number of layers (hence layering). One can also put a highlight on the edges of surfaces with a very thin line of a lighter colour right on the corner (hence, surprisingly, edging)
Other cool things
Washes are essentially a very thin coat of paint applied over a surface that run off of the raised edges and into the recesses- these both shade the miniature and help to blend highlights togeather.
Up, up and away!
Internet is your friend...my friend
Not to sound unfriendly, but you should do some searches on google or on this forum for terms like "beginner tutorials", "highlighting", "painting guide" etc., it will return tons of resources as these topics were covered a million times. I know, because that's how I started in January and all those resources were a tremendous help. Especially for such a popular chapter as Ultramarines you should be able to find good links. Here's an advanced tutorial:
Dysartes.com - Painting: Ultramarines - Part 1
Also visit the GW's website as they have some decent painting tutorials.

Wow, im sorry lol. I should have researched this more, i was kind of in a hurry i posted this than left for work LOL.
Anyway, on the topic of my sisters camera i just found out its broken LOL
Ok, iv got my head around highlighting. A question about the washes, washes is too get a darker color in the "cracks" too give a shadow. So on ultramarine blue could you do a wash of black or dark blue?

The Citadel washes are rather good so I'ld stick to those, as there is only one blue I'ld go with that one.

yeah, you'd use black or blue, or maybe a mix of black and blue, depending on what shade of blue u used for ur SMs. Asuremen blue by itself may not be dark enough.
