There's a company based in New Zealand that does custom laser cutting, with a nice web based front end. Essentially, you make your design in a vector based graphics program then upload it to them, they cut it out of the material you want and mail it to you. Shipping is probably not cheap, but since they are in Wellington, they offered me the chance to go pick it up.
One of the materials they offer is Styrene, specifically 0.5, 1, 2, etc. mm so i decided to give the 0.5 mm styrene a shot for various bits eldar.
Here's some of the results .
Alaitoc logo pieces....
and the actual reason for this project: the canopies on my new Jetbike army. This is just a test piece, so it's a little messy. I'm sure i can sand down a little of the mess and with a coat of primer it'll look pretty decent.
Heres what it looks like when it comes back from the company:
i originally thought i needed to design it with tabs to be cut out, but that turned out not to be the case. They attach a sticky film to the back of the styrene so that you don' tloose any pieces. The burn marks are from the protective masking paper they put on first.
Anyway, hopefully that's useful to someone. The company is Ponoko
That looks awesome, great find!
Though I did read the title of this thread and was initially worried. Fun with a laser cutter; what could possibly go wrong?
Wow- I'm pretty interested in that. How much was that sheet you got there (in $kiwi)?
EDIT: Woah! Approx 800mm x 400mm x 1mm for less than kiwi$10? And I can put as many designs as I can fit on that page? I'm going to be designing a 'vehicle badge' page pretty damn soon!
We should use this thread to post pages we've made for other people to check out.
