I've gotten hold of a bunch of Cadians, and I thought it was time to do something about by old dream of making a Mordian Iron Guard army. These guys only exist as metal minis so I thought I'd try converting them from my new Cadians. I also have a lot of Catachan heads lying around, and they are a good base for conversion.
So here's my first mini so far. I've given him a backpack to see how it would work, and I rather like it. I will go with backpacks for my lads. What do you think?
I've been photoshopping a bit and I've come up with a nice colour sheme. They will look something like this eventually:
Bobhat, that some very impressive work! The attention to detail is excellent - right down to the detail on the chest plate and hat. I see you have also filed the pocket off the trouser (or at least I think thats what you've done). Muchly impressive. I wonder, how long did it take you to make this guy?
The backpack is excellent - very in keeping with the model. The opportunities to tailor the backpacks to the different types of soldier (plasma gunner, ammo runner, comms officer etc) will be vast and will really help to add variety to the army.
Excellent work mate. I look forward to seeing more of these Mordian conversions!
What a great idea. The conversion looks brilliant.
Looking forward to seeing the finished product.
Ric's Game Space
Thats great stuff Bobahat
Blackhat's new blog network for terrain crafters!
May be easier and faster to make the pads, helmet, and backpack into a cast and mass produce them that way.
Great work though, can not wait to see a squad finished and painted up!
It doesn't take that long actually... And I rather enjoy making them. The hats and torsos could be cast I suppose, but the tassles fall randomly around the shoulder depending on the position of the arm.
Any special way you make the hat? I kinda want to loot it for my grot rebellion army.
Here's my Commander so far. I'm a bit worried that he still looks too much like Creed. Maybe I will remove his left arm and make a new one that mirrors the right (both hands on hips). What do you think?
My first mini in the initial painting stages. I can't decide what colour to paint his rolled up sleeping mat thingy... Any ideas?
And a few Ratlings. I have given them new heads (I hate the fugly Elvis heads) and an in the process of GS'ing. Their hats will look like the other Mordian hats.
