WIP of my first Tyranid-themed objective marker. It'll be a access vent to the undercity that the Tyranids are trying to defend/capture. Could also be used as tunnel marker for Apocalypse.
It's made out of a pill bottle (being old, we have lots of these around) and some straws. The full bottle is shown on the left, the WIP is to the right. I scored the top and then used a pair of pliers to pull the corners up. It'll have a genestealer arm coming out from the inside. Hopefully it will look like the genestealers have infiltrated and are trying to break out through the vents.
Cool start, I hope it goes well! Keep us updated.
I personally love objective pieces. I like building them and then fighting to the death over them. Iv eplayed to many a game where we fight for no real apperent reason other then 'lets fight'. You approach is so far very well done. I like the concept and the implication thus far. HEADSUP, you are going to want to prime the plastic container befor epainting it, that type of plastic doesnt like to hold paint well with out a primer. And you might want to make the hole bigger, genestealers are big creatures and would make a bigger hole. Other then that keep going, cant wait to see the final product.
You get the GUANT SEAL OF APPROVAL, I got give rep out much but this gets some
NIce. A simple but very effective objective marker, will look great when painted.
Could I make a suggestion for another use of these bottles (if you have many)? When I first looked at this I thought it looked like some sort of containment tank which a tyranid had escaped from. The condensation on the inside of the semi transparent pill bottle, looks like some sort of containment fluid has drained away. You could make a few in a row, all with a tyranid in, apart from one, broken open and empty.
Sort of like someone had tried to capture and contain a genestealer or something to experiment on, but it had backfired. That could make a great scenario or campaign, where an Ordo xenos Inquisitor had a captured 'stealer shipped to his world, but it escaped and massacred the scientists. If it can't be stopped it will bring the whole hive fleet down up the world....
ahem, anyway back on subject. Nice model!
Step 2. Primed black, drybrushed with Tin Bitz and VMC Gunmetal, and then washed with Paynes Grey (naturally). Another light drybrush of VMC Gunmetal and VMC Silver for highlights. The genestealer arm is my typical Tyranid pattern.
The industrial stripe is made out of a piece of wine foil. I laid down a piece of hobby tape on the backside and used it as a guide to cut it out. I glued it onto the vent and then painted the stripes. In hindsight, I should have painted the stripes first and then glued the strip to the vent. Oh well.
Well! That was fast!
Looks to have come out quite nicely though! The Hazard stripe is a good touch; it certainly would have looked a bit bland otherwise.
nice work very scary reminds me of Alien or something
it really doesnt need improvement, but if youre going to add liquids, maybe some blood (or acid) leaking from the bottle cap, or from the area where the straws meet the main ... resovoir.
