I'm planning on building a 3' by 4' gaming board, which is entirely a ruined castle!
and I am wondering if any of you LOers have ever built or seen such a board? could you post pics of good castles (preferably ruined) you've seen?
are there any pointers you'd give?
Thank you all very much for any input.
Well a good material to use as walls is either that pink or blue polystyrene. You can scribe the individual blocks with a blunt 4B pencil. Otherwise you could use foamboard and to the texture of rock with wall spackling paste or polyfilla. You can do blocks with DAS as well.
Im guessing this is for fantasy?
I haven't seen many ruined castles so it will be a great project. I will see if i have any pics.
Here are some links to LOTR projects (helms deep/osgiliath) that have great tips for building castles/fort ruins etc. The techniques are perfect for what you want to do:
One Ring : Amon Sul
One Ring : Building Edoras Pt 1 - The Palisade Walls
One Ring : Helms Deep Part 1
One Ring : Osgiliath - Part 1
thanks heapss!!! those are some great tutorials!! i especially liked the helms deep one.
Your in luck! I've been building a castle fortress for 40K out of Cities of Death sprues and foamcore board. It's modular and you could shorten the normally 1' long wall sections to fit your board (mine turrets are ~6.5" x 6.5".) Check out the link in my sig for more info.
