Well, a few days ago i decided i was no longer going to pursue the Black Templar army i was thinking about building, unfortunately, this decision was made after i already purchased an Assault Marines Box, a Tactical Marines Box and did a bitz order specifically for making this guy...
...anyway, i just threw him together real quick... i've still got to drill out the bolt pistol obviously and the pics aren't that great quality. I'll spray him up soon and get some pics of the painting progress in the painting forum soon...
...i think my main concern is his sword, whose blade is as long as the champion is tall, other than that i'm happy with the overall pose, i like the bulkiness in his shoulder.... a friend of mine has shown some concern about the downward angle of teh sword...C&C welcome and appreciated
I think gigantic swords are a must for Marines. First of all who in their right mind would want to go up against someone 2 feet taller than you? What if one of them actually called you out and carried a sword that was even taller than him?
Nice conversion. Simple and still good. And I get to be the first person to tell you to drill out the bolter barrel.
Sleeping, not dead.

Givng him a cape of some kind would look extra nice if you can. But otherwise it's a nice conversion.
Check out Double Edged Painting blog for more information on commissions and work in progress
COVER him in seals, like literally, thats what I did with my "veterans" and it makes such a massive difference to their whole look.
The model looks very nice! I cant wait to see it painted, as for the sword, it works nicely for the Black Sword that all emperor's champions carry.
"Brothers! You carry his word as the burning torch in your hearts! With that flame you shall walk into the darkness and we will destroy it!" Marshal Gorgon at the battle of Hive Kalwan
Keep the huge sword!
One thing that is bothering me is that his back is looking very plain. Try adding one of those double skull shrine thingiesat the top of his backpack. Edit: Or a jump pack !
Also add a cape. I would normaly GS it but I don't know how good you are at that.
Otherwise great work
Yessir... bolt pistol will be drilled out immediately sir!
i've been keeping track of your Salamanders thread - i love the capes on your sallies, but i have to be honest i'm not a huge fan of them on many other models - don't know if it's because i can't figure out how i'm supposed to assemble/paint them or what... but i think he shall remain cape-less
i've definitely been pondering more seals - but i'll probably only do 1 or 2 more - i don't really want to clutter him too much
thanks! the more i look at the sword the more i like it... seems like it was a good decision
yeah i guess the backpack does look a bit plain... and i'm not sure are Jump Packs legal on them? i don't think you can change their wargear.... but the pictures didn't show - the backpack is actually a Black Templar's backpack, its got a couple chains on it, and a templar icon.... i may very well add something to the top of it though
looking at the pictures i kind of have the same concern - but when i look at the front picture... his pose just seems too perfect at this point
Thanks everyone for the comments and criticisms.... i'm going to be drilling the barrel and adding a few seals tomorrow for sure, unfortunately i think a cape using GS is kind of out of my ability at this point (i haven't really played with making capes too much) and like i said, i'm not a huge fan of them - i think the front cloth is enough on this guy. I plan on priming him tomorrow as well as throwing on the first few coats of paint... i'll post a link to the painting section once i get pics...
THANKS AGAIN GUYS!!
I agree with your cape-less sentimentality... its a nice change to the popularity of "Hey look! I gots me a cape! ME be important!".
I think though, if I were you, then I'd add a cloth hanging from his left shoulder pad (Bolt Pistol arm), the same size as his loin cloth. I'd model this additional adornment so as to represent his forward motion, i.e. swept back.
KEEP THE SWORD. Some swords are too large while most are too small, but I have to say yours has got to the most perfect of a fit that I have seen in a long time! Nice work!
