Having been a member now for a few months, I though it might be time to demonstrate some of my painting skills and hopefully get feedback and advice from other people. I have always been a fam of Ultramarines, and have slowly been redoing some of my miniatures as well as painting some new ones.
I finished the chaplain a couple of days ago. It took about two weeks all up, but that was sporadic painting at best - I find it hard to give myself enough time to finish jobs.
As you can see from the photos, I swapped the bolt pistol for a plasma pistol and added a couple of extra details from old sprues. I was particularly happy with scrolls and the extreme highlights around the legs.
Look forward to the feedback!

Nice work, well done. I think the coloring used for the scrolls is my favorite part of the figure. If I had to make a critique, it would be that the shades used to highlight the gold on the scepter don't seem quite right (too grey/silvery rather than a nice bronze/yellow shining gold, if that makes sense), but it could be bad lighting from the photo. Again, nice work!
Edit: Also if you wouldn't mind, I'm curious to know what recipe you used for the scroll work
With regards to the scrolls, I generally use the following process:
1. Basecoat with Dheneb Stone
2. Devlan Mud Wash over all the scrolls
3. Reset the basecoat with Kommando Khaki, leaving wash in deepest recesses
4. Layer on 1:1 Mix of Kommando Khaki: Bleached Bone
5. Second layer with straight Bleached Bone
6. Highlight with 1:2 Mix of Bleached Bone: Skull White
7. Sometimes (but very rarely) I will use a pure Skull White highlight on the most prominent edges
8. Use watered down Black and Scab Red paints for scripture

Very nice, as for the sceptre, the stark contrast in regards to the highlighting make it look older, like it has seen many battles and has been made to see more. Whether the intention was to imply age/wear I do not know. The rest of the model is oh so shiny
Lookin' good! I like the black. That's a harder color to do well than people think. Me likey.
Cool I really like your plasma gun nossel (okay that sounded better in my head)

Thanks for all the feedback everyone.
I am going to start on a 5 man squad of assault marines to go with the chaplain. Just one problem - should I give one of the marines a plasma pistol or a flamer? I am leaning towards the flamer at the moment (too much risk of marine dying from gets hot!)
i would say go with the flamer, esp if you intend to keep it just 5man, it gives them a higher potential kill rate before CC to lower potential (counter-)attacks and ignores cover.
plus, it looks awesome
