Hey everyone, I was wondering which wash (delvan or ball) i should use over a basecoat of mostly blood red? Its really a mix of 25% merchite red and 75% blood red. I only have a couple models to test on (state troops) so I was wondering which one would look better? I'm aiming for a crimson red colour overall while still getting that shading effect with the wash. Working off a black undercoat and the cloth is basecoated completely with the mix of colors mentioned above.. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
uhm hmmm pics would help but for my reds...well i havent used either wash i washed mine with skab red mik with some chaos black realy watterd down so maybe the red one...not sure needs more help for this guy!
uh ok i just noticed my washes next to me so looking at the baal red its dark and red it could work specialy if you want to keep a bright red, delvan mud would make it look dirty most likely. hope this helps

I don't think you'll notice much change from putting Baal Red onto a Mechrite base coat. It might work ok with so much Blood Red in there, but it still probably won't be the nice dark shade you want. I'd be inclined to shade it with Devlan Mud and then used (very)thinned Ball Red to blend the tones back together after highlighting.
Personally, I'd start with a slightly (and I mean slightly) watered, Baal, then a straight out Devlan, followed by a series of Baal glazes to taste.
That's just my two cents.

Hey guys thanks alot for the input and examples. Hey Muette, could you tell me how exactly you painted the red armour on your black orcs? I think thats pretty much the color I'm going for. Also do you guys think its better to brush on the wash or spray it for a more even coat. I seem to have trouble getting the wash to gather in the recesses especially with these state troops since they dont have the definition like older GW models. Thanks again.
I prefer spraying the wash onto vehicles or other models with lots of flat areas.. But I brush on the wash onto small models with a tank brush. =]
