Ok, here's some more work done on a Sister. I've not done the face/hair/metallics/base yet, since I'm still trying to sort out the basic colourscheme.
I'm really happy with the bone colour of the fleur-de-lys, and the winged Inquisitorial symbol - I might go back and add some finer highlights in white, though I'm not sure it's needed.
I don't like the Inquisitorial symol on the rosary though. I'm thinking of painting it gold, to add a bit of grandeur to the model (all basic sisters will have metallic lining to the corsets/breasts/backpacks; Superiors and Celestians will have gold trim...though I may give all the sisters a white trim around the base of the corset, depending on what I do with the gauntlets).
I like the colour of the armour, though I got distracted watching iPlayer whilst painting and painted into my shadow a little bit, so I might have to line-in - but in what colour I don't know, chestnut ink doesn't show up too well, so I might have to stick to black. I am thinking that I might give the armour a Magenta Ink wash, it keeps the armour dark like the Red Gore, but gives it a certain richness, like Blood Red. I'm still not sure whether I prefer it or not, it does have the drawback of washing-out the transition between the layers I've done, so might look a little too single-colour.
The robes are the biggest problem for me. The purple doesn't show up at a distance and makes the model look too dark. I need suggestions for other colours that should work with the nice dark red of the armour. I'd thought about a yellow, but that's a little garish and, IMO, inappropriate for these Sisters as I am trying to keep them a little grimdark (though not as dark as the purple makes them). This is a dilemma that I've really drawn a blank on, and would appreciate some help.
The gauntlets I'm also undecided about. I won't make them red; I'll either make them the same colour as the robes (which is agian why purple doesn't work), or I'll paint them white for a nice bit of contrast with the rest of the model (and maybe match the corset trim).
So, what do you think of what I've got going so far, and any ideas on the darn robe? Many thanks for any help
I looks pretty good in my opinion. I like the red, but I see what you mean about the purple, it blends too much in with the red. I would suggest you used cream. It is stark against the red, so will stand out and isn't too difficult to paint.
I would have gone black for the robes but that could be a derivative of a nun's habit that I always associate them with.
And over there we have the labyrinth guards.
One always lies, one always tells the truth, and one stabs people who ask tricky questions.
I agree with Kuffy. If you are looking for something that will stand out I would go with a creamy white cloak. Base of bone, washed with devlan mud and highlighted up to white will make the figure snap with visibility!
