As always, I'm a bargain hunter and a good kit of paints is no exception. I was wondering if anyone might be able to inform me of what they think is a good deal for paints...hopefully in some bulk package or kit.
I got a Testors kit for about $20 that had a nice variety of about 10-12 different paints and other useful things like cheap brushes, exacto knife etc. However, I decided that Testors is too much hassle and smells up the place...especially when you have to get out the paint thinner (because it's oil-based).
So far, this is what I've seen in my area.
Vallejo individual bottles $3.29-$3.69.
a kit of 18 GW paints, $50.
Right now I'm tempted to try and convince my friend to buy the GW paints in exchange for me painting his models. OR I could try to buy something a little cheaper and maybe charge him enough to cover the cost and make a small profit. If anyone has any suggestions on where to find good deals, please let me know!
p.s. I think I would prefer Vallejo or GW paints, but let me know of other good brands that might be cheaper too!
If you don't mind ordering the paints online from www.thewarstore.com you can get vallejo paints and game colors for about $2.69 single bottles or by them in themed packs for about $39.60 for 16 paints. They also have Reaper paints available in triad packs for $7.19 and the single bottle paints for $2.49.
A quick stop at a craft store like Michael's or Joanne's will reward you with some seriously cheap paint. The most expensive I've seen there is 1.29. The quality is not bad; I use it on my models.
