I just started with a Warriors of Chaos army and bought the Battalion Box. I'm going for the Mark of Nurgle on all possible troops and I started to wonder how to make Chaos Marauders look like they belong to Nurgle. I would like some help getting ideas for how to convert and paint them to look nurgly.
You can paint all the armor green is probly simple way to go. You can also get the possesed box and use the arm and haeds in there to convert them basicly or you can go in advance and either putty there armor to look rotten or you can do there bodies. The last idea is real pain is buttox
I think I got a pretty good idea now of how I'm going to convert and paint them.. The hardest thing to do is to make the skin look rotten/dead or whatever. Ah, I'll probably find a way!
Aha, a General after my own heart! I did the same thing. Nurgle marauders ftw.
Personally I'm a bit of a fluff buff, so didn't want my marauders looking TOO rotting as they're still striving for the attention of the gods, so I just gave them a tinge. But if you want to really nurgle them, the possessed sprues are the way to go. Here's how I got a nice sickly tinge for the flesh of my guys.
base coat of 2:1 tallarn flesh/white
hefty wash of 1:1 ogryn flesh/thrakka green
mid tone of 1:2 tallarn flesh/white
highlight of bleached bone (optional)
drybrush of rotting flesh all over.
additional: if that's not green enough for you, go for an additional 1:1 water/thrakka green after the mid tone.
Hope that helps you, it certainly put the look of nurgle on my marauders. Good luck!
Two wrongs don't make a right, but three rights make a left.
Even better than the possessed sprue is to get a box of zombies.
I second Aubecs suggestion.
The great thing with Nurgle is that (almost) everything goes.
My tips are mostly concerning conversion and not painting but if you convert your Marauders the painting will be much easier. Use whatever heads, arms or random body parts you have in your bitbox.
Buy some Green Stuff! If you've never used the stuff maybe you get a little intimidated but it's really easy and you learn fast. Use really small amounts! Take pinhead sized blob and smaer it over a joint/neck/groin/knee or whatever, use a tool to make some small holes or recesses in it and voila - instand nurgle. Then paint it in the most hideous way you can, put some gloss varnish over it and you're done.
Making tentacles, slug lower bodies, giant bellies and boils are all very easy and hard to mess up.
Try it! It'll look great. And show us when you're done.
