with my new WoC army expanding I thought about making a chaos waste land gaming board but I don't really know what scenery to use.
I was thinking of a board with black (ashy) sand and of course one or two hills and maybe some dead trees but thats actually all i can image
Ohh and maybe some kind of dark temple made with the arcane ruins set.
Do you people have some more ideas for me?
thanks in advance
Well, That depends on the material you're going to use. If you use a few layered sheets of pink foam, I'd suggest carving out some cracks in the ground off to one side in the shape of a chaos star, possibly with the chaos shrine at the epicenter of said star.
As for groundwork, I'd go with the blackened wasteland, with a few nuances of dead (brown) grass and scorch marks here and there. Oh, and lava flows. Gotta have lava flows.
Also might consider molding some spikes on bases that you can move around, the chaos wastes have big spikes all over

hmmm, thanks for the advice but I don't know where i could get pink foam that thin. If I do than I will defiantely make that chaos star right in the middle but I'm not so sure about the lava. Just doesn't seem right in the ice cold waste land of the north (especially if I put snow on it too)
Whats more chaotic than an ice cold lava wasteland?
For the greater good, my will be done!

Don't forget that the chaos wastes are well, chaotic. The closer you are to the north pole the more likely it is going to be unsual and bizzare. So it's possible to have a Chaos snow themed board.
One of the article in the December issue of US. White Dwarf, they have a Campaign in the Chaos wastes. I would read that for inspiration. Spikey and deadly seems to be the trend.
The best advice I can give you is to read some of Michael Moorcock's short stories - start with Elric of Melnibone.
The depiction of Chaos in there is exactly what you're looking for.

I think your ideas sound great. Dark grey dry brushed sand table and hills, a good number of dead trees and the arcane ruins would make for an excellent board. Post pics if you do do it :-)
One thing about chaos themed boards you can really let your imagine go crazy. Perhaps there are ancient monoliths traping the souls of the fallen? Ancient trees infused with the power of the Warp? Or maybe a frozen land with daemons trapped beneath the Ice?
I think if you develop a theme for your board it will be easier for you to come up with terrain.
Chaos877 your illustration is funny and chaotic!
