Well, I got this idea off of someone elses mistake over someone elses thread asking about snow terrain over at DakkaDakka.
What if someone converted Orks on snowboards to represent them being on Warbikes?
This got me thinking, as it would be a fun project, what if I made a whole army of snow themed Orks on bikes, but with snowboards?
The concept would be to have Boyz, mounted on snowboards made from plasticard that was bent via heat on the edges, with the Twin-Linked Dakkagun on the front on the board, and some type of rocket on the back to propel them and create the exhaust to warrant the cover save.
For Nobz on bikes, I would use actual bikes, but they would be modded to be snowmobiles, by making the front wheel attachments into the ski-like apparatus on the front, and using both wheels, a wide rubber band, and plasticard slats to make up a snow tread on the back. Wazzdakka would be the same, only with more Dakka, and possibly a more impressive snowmobile.
Overall, this would be extremely cheap, only 171 dollars for a 1.5k point army, and it would be a blast to convert for me.

Deff Koptas have a snowmobileish shape and would be even cheaper than Bikes. Could be a cool idea.
great idea, especially the rockets on the back, and of course the snowmobile and snowboard ideas. Dont bother bending the boards, orks would probably just use sheet metal so i think you should just cut and glue them anto a sort of _, shape.
Now see I would do Deffkoptas, and have looked into it, but it would be hell to try and convert treads onto them. I like the shape of them, and they are quite cheap, and I would do it if I could find an easy way to make treads (bits or something).
Anyways, for the Boyz, I am thinking for the rocket, use some kind of missile (or missiles), and then strapping Shootas to the sides, sticking out enough to fire. Any suggestions? I would use Stormboy backpacks, but I don't want to wait for May to make use of them.
And yeah, bending them right would be tough, and if I cut and glue them like that it will seem more Orky. Plus that leaves me room for the rocket on the back of the board and the guns.
This would be an AWESOME army! Snowboarding Orks! (I suppose it doesn't have to be just Orks, though...)
How good are you at converting? Because they're all going to need florescent Ski goggles.
Maybe a scarf or two?
And Hats! -->
Maybe a Snowman-shaped Killer-kan/Dreadnought?
This is going to be fun!
EDIT: Sorry I don't have any useful suggestions like the others in this thread do...
I am decent at converting, but a nub at Green stuff. I could attempt a sock hat or two, and I will do the Painboy's surgical mask.
As for other things in the army, I doubt I will go beyond bikes and Biker Nobz, just for costs sake. I may only do the 1500 points, as that alone will take forever to convert. I will consider an Abominable Killa Kan once I get that first 1500.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to represent the extra toughness on the Snowboarders as a result of the bikes?
I love this idea. In fact, I kinda want to steal it. lol
Anyways, as for suggestions, I think what you should worry about most is to not make the snow boards look too... smooth... Not sure the word I am looking for, but when I envision ork snow boards, something that easily treads snow is not what I see! LOL
Yeah, I intend to make them look as Orky as possible. At first I was going to model them after actual snowboards, since I have snowboarded before I know what they look like and how to design them, but after thinking about it Orks would have just make a slat of metal with a guard at the front to keep them from flipping over frontwise.
That will probably give me more room to work with (if there isn't a curve on the back, less to run into for the rocket), but I sitll need a good source of a rocket for the back. Stormboy backpacks seem like the best option, but they don't come out until May. I don't want to wait till May.
Can anyone think of a convincing rocket that would be wide enough to make the Shootas on the sides out enough to miss the Ork?
