Welcome to Librarium Online!
I've been thinking for ages and doing lots of research and am finding it very hard to come up with ideas for an Arch Magos. He will lead my Dark Mechanicus legions and therefore needs to be a fairly imposing and unique figure.
The best thing I can think of is the description of Meglator in Mechanicum, thought that was fairly vague.
I’ve done this sketch which combines my best ideas and elements of other models that appeal to me.
I've got the idea that he is riding a tracked platform since he is so large and bulky. I'm thinking he'll count as being in terminator armour. Servo arms and mechadendrites are instead of arms, although he has a large drill. Possibly a throwback to his former self and symbol of his power.
Let me know what you think. Any ideas, comments etc are welcome. I am prepared to fully sculpt/scratch build this figure so anything goes.
Also, I will be using rules for a chaos lord or sorcerer. Any ideas for the weapon/accessory/powers choices would be great.
Depending on the size of tread your looking at you could use the treads from the based of the new Thunderfire Cannon which are awesome, as well there was another thread that had someone doing a mechanicus army and there was a link to non-GW miniatures site that had some awesome models on treads that i think are the same scale as 40k, i'll have to see if i can find it again.
I reject your reality and substitute me own!
Are you sure at that point you won't want to chair him and make him seated in a kind of permanent seat and you want him to essentially be standing? I think it might be cooler if he was huddled in his own private kind of seat, all aged and hunched with larger versions of his servo arms attached to a massive servo harness that almost completely surrounds him in the chair.
I just say this because I'm not a big fan of the surfing or "Danger Will Robinson" look. In any case I hope the model comes out splendidly for you, it looks like you're going to have a lot of fun with conversions ^_^

Looks like you have a good idea.
Ive seen what you have done in the past and im sure you could pull this off. I have seen Mechanicus before on warseer and try seraching for that it might give ideas.
I was going to use catterpillar tracks on my army but i couldnt find any that were not grossly overpriced but i think you should be able to scatch build some tho.

I AM BOOMER!
Sarpedon - I know the treads you are thinking of. Its the Micro art Studio ones. I have built my own ones that are similar, although a bit small for this guy. I was actually thinking of using WWII tank tracks.
Archonofdeath - I am also not very happy with the surfing or "Danger Will Robinson" Look.
I like the idea of a chaired figure, kinda like a chaos throne of judgement. Otherwise i'll just make him without a platform. I like the idea that he has replaced nearly all of his human form with mechanical parts. This is in the fluff as what tech priests do as they grow in status and power.
Maybe if i make a him as a standing figure i can have him riding on top of a large platform with defiler style legs etc. I could make it removeable.
Boomer - Thanks, i'll have a look on warseer, see what i can find, although the black layout is really annoying.
I have made my own tracks as you may have seem in my Dark Mech log:
I'll be casting those so if you are after some, let me know. I can do them for pretty cheap.
I might start sculpting the basic figure and see what happens. I'll keep you posted.
I AM BOOMER!
what kind of modeling putty is that?
you seem to have a lot of control using it, looking to branch out past GS one of these days
This guy look cool. I like what you have done so far. I think in creating a Dark mechanicus dude you should remember that the typical Adeptus mechanicus are generally quite icky and unpleasant themselves. The problem you may encounter is amking him look chaotic and not simply like a typically grubby Mechanicus dude. You should try to include a feature that makes him stand out as corrupted. The tentacles that Dr octopus has could help. The mechandendrites are an idea that GW ripped off from Dr ock's arms. Big tentacles that are part bio-mech would help to show the corrution of his body. Guns could go on the tentacles if you are planning for him to be a shooty character or big choppers for assault. He could even have wasted arms to show he relies on his creations.
Elric of the void - The putty is a basic epoxy putty called epo putty I get from a hardware store. It's made for plumbing and has a very fine texture. It also sets rock hard so is better for armour etc. I only used it for that model as i had never tried green stuff. I reckon green stuff is actually better sometimes for more flowing and organic shapes.
Boomer - I will be casting them very soon so I will keep in touch. I want to make a small range of similar figures to cater for people like me who cant get specific pieces they want. The body is separate and i will also be selling it as a complete kit with mechanical arms. I'm actually looking at sculpting and casting minaitures for my own game. Its kinda mad max crossed with 40k crossed with lotr
Leech - I really like the idea of wasted arms that no longer work but are just there. I will be sculpting chaosy flesh etc on it but want to keep it fairly subtle. He is not overly deformed or posessed. I will definately have bio-flesh parts that are all icky looking, instead of straight machine connections for things like the mechadendrites. The paint should also help. He's gonna be very oily, grimy and rusty.
Something like this?
I think there's a tutorial in that thread on how he made that guy. Since it looks like exactly what you wanted from your sketch it could be alot of help.
Heres a link of this great ad mech army It's on pages 23 - 24
