I am building up a Tyranid army for WH40k right now and I'm really looking to go for an eerie feel. I wanted to make their bases (along with some matching terrain) give off an alien vibe, so what I'm thinking is a cool, medium-dark gray ground with moon-like craters and texture. The terrain will likely be mostly craters, hills, and other smoothish features (along with some Tyranid structures popping up, but I'll worry about that later.) Any ideas on ways to make bases in this style this easily enough to reproduce over and over? I don't want them flat, but I think just throwing down some sand will make them look too earthy and I don't want to sculp tiny craters for all those models!
You ever play starcraft or warcraft 3?
That "Creep" that they have on the undead base and the zerg I think is a perfect idea, its just a growth, similar also I think to the gunk those aliens in "War of the worlds" spew out when they eat bodies, it just grows on the ground around them and is almost like a new skin for the planet.
Greenstuff some funky looking gunk for bases? What else do you need?
Not really what I'm looking for, but thanks. I'm thinking maybe I'll just use cork on the bases, but then my units will all be taller, which means they will be easier to shoot. By the way, where do I get those cork things I see people using on bases?
