For my Lizardmen army, I am painting them pale yellow with orange-pink scales (pics later)..
The bases are greenstuffed stone slabs (in the form of tiles) and painted in the following way:
Khemri Brown base
Drybrush Dheneb Stone
Wash with watered Gryphonne Sepia
Very lightly drybrush dheneb Stone
My question is:
What colour should I paint the edges of the bases?

Charadon Granite. Almost black but with a hint of jungle and stone.
No more NG spearmen, thanks! Now I need some pump-wagons!
I myself prefer painting them solid black. For some reason I just think it ends up looking cleaner and helps the eye travel to the detail on the figure...

All my 40k models have the same theme: cityfight. Meaning black bases highlighted with grey. My base edges are therefor black. I still haven't decided what to paint my Fantasy base edges, i'm thinking graveyard earth or a 50% graveyard earth / 50% darkbrown mix.
I am with Mike - Black will let your eyes flow to the figure itself and will blend with more tables easier than brown would. I have a brown-edged army and black-edged one and I must say that I like the black one more, and so my third one is going the same route. Whatever you do, do not use green
I like grave yard earth. Ive done black and it does look nice if the model is sitting on a shelf but on a gaming table it just looks unfinshed. Grave yard earth is also what G.W use and as they say it helps the model blend with any type / colour on gaming table better than green does. But they your models, so paint them as you please.
