Welcome to Librarium Online!
for baseing i was wondering whats the diferenc between static grass and flock and which do you prefer for basing minis. Any help would be appreciated
both, mix them together. you get the non-mowed grass look to your guys ^_^
Tomb Kings, Marines, Eldar
no preference, I just found the static grass before I found the flock
"I have died a thousand deaths, and I will die a million more..."
i flock my bases and then apply a little grass for the effect
A fool and his shoe are soon parted.
Personaly i prefer static grass it looks much more realistic, profesional and well i hate flock it looks like nuthing, it looks fake as cheap. I would say use a half gravel half static grass bass for a realistic profesional finish.

You definitely want to use a combination of materials on a base. Unless your troops are invading the 18th hole, they aren't going to be standing on a smooth green surface. Even if the ground is all vegitation, a combination of flock (low veggies) static grass (medium veggies) and herba buena, tall grass, or small bushes make it look much more realistic.
These bases are a combination of painted ground, small rocks, flock (the short moss looking stuff), static grass crushed down to look trampled, and some clumbs of tall grasses.
These bases are more rough terrain, mostly painted dirt and rocks. However a few spots of vegitation help add more detail. Don't forget you can get all types of ground covering in different colors, not just the plain green from GW.
You can also add other items of interest as details to a base if its large enough to accomidate them. Just don't overdo the base so that it looks cluttered or detracts from the mini. On this giant I added some shields, boulders, and mixed in a small amount of green foam as small bushes.
Any tips on bases for the Cityfight Guardsmen Im working on?
I am the Aquila-Guerilla!
I'd say a mix of flock and sand to show diffrent sizes of rubbles. Also you could cut down the frames on the sprues to make perfect stone blocks.Originally posted by GuardinGnome@Aug 1 2004, 19:15

I sand my bases before spraying, then after i'm finished the model I paint the sand, and once thats dry I use static grass in little clumps

Ok here's how I do it...
Cover the entire base with fine model sand...
Then after that I add small specks of static grass.
I always use the sand first cause it makes the grass "stand out" more.
