I was recently reading up on the SM vehicles and read that all the SM tanks are based off the Rhino Chassis.
If this is true. Theoretically one could Buy a rhino, Pred turrets, Sponsons(Or fabricate some if there are none.), Whirlwind Turrets, Demolisher cannon w/ appropriate dozer (or mod one), Vindicator top, razorback Turrets, and some magnets, magnetize all the parts so they can be placed in the appropriate place on the rhino.
Viola, you have a universal tank that can be switched out for any vehicle for whatever the situation calls for.
Yup, that is perfectly plausible. There is no reason not to if you get a pred. or whirlwind. Many have done this before too.
The Great Plague meets The Devourer of The Galaxy. What does that make us?
...the only limitation is how many magnets can you put there and make them... not visible too much
You are quite right - but would you only want one vehicle in your army? Some players prefer having a 'squadron' of two or three. Of course they can still use magnets (or bluetack or whatever) to play with those two or three and put different variants on the tabletop.
What you point out also applies to Imperial Guard - there will be several Chimera and Leman Russ variants, and to Orks - lots of choices on the BattleWagon, Tau - Devilfish or Hammerhead and so on.
The only problem I see is losing the bits - perhaps using a compartment box, the same way that I store figures.

Zapp: You see the killbots have a preset kill limit. Knowing their weakness, I sent wave after wave of my own men at them until they reached their limit and shut down.
It is possible now if you know how to magnet all the parts
Never interrupt your opponent when you know he is making a mistake!
PS: The Rhino top doors can be stored inside the vehicle when configures as a Razorback.

NIce and easy if you have a few of the cheaper forgeworld bits too. The razorback mounting plate comes in the rhino set and all I do it take the turrets off my tarantula and plonk it on top, perfect fit. Forge world seem to like reusing bits, so the tarantula is just a razorback turret on a new stand, the damocles rhino's radar is just the radar from the air defense platform and I think the helios land raider is just a whrilwind turret on a 'raider. All the bits are nice and interchangeable.
I as actually a bit surprised when I went to warhammer world and looked in the miniatures hall to discover that is what GW/Eavy Metal do with most of their tanks. Most tanks in the hall had a few different turrets next to them. It was only when I went back to the codexs that I noticed stuff like all the hammerhead hulls in the Tau book are suspiciously identical and almost all the tank models on the poster that came wit the last white dwarf are the same hull
I started this a couple of years back, still haven't added the Razorback or Whirlwind sprues I bought for it. I didn't get the vindicator parts before my interest waned. In fact I put this together before there was a plastic Vindicator, maybe I'll see if I can't get my hands on one and finish this off...

That is pretty close to what I do. I take some (I think) 1/4" x 1/16" Neodymium Iron Boron magnets and put them inside the doors of my tanks, and on the Sponsons as well as the normal doors. The effect is great, you can switch off for options as often as you want, etc. I thought about doing that with the gun, but I decided I would rather just purchase a new Turret from Forge World or GW.
*thumbs up* Good to see more magnet lovers around. Have fun and avoid getting the 2x2x1" magnets that will take your finger off.
Also what you should do is purchase like 3 of each of the Heavy Support tanks (Predator, Whirlwind, and Vindicator), then you can swap out for 3 tanks to get anything you want, and still have 6 Rhinos left over for Troop/HQ selections. I would suggest looking into any UK based internet company that sells GW minis (GW UK, Wayland Games, etc.). Its like all GW minis at around 30 ~ 50% off, even GW UK comes to be like 20% off all of the models (22 dollar sets from the US come to be like 17/18 dollars from the UK). I just checked and 3 Predators, 3 Whirlwinds and a Line Breaker Squadron come out to be like 235 with shipping. Good luck *thumbs up* I mean... I guess you could also just buy 3 Heavy Support Rhino variants (possibly one of each) and then phone order the parts from GW itself. Would probably cost like... 40*3=120+6*12=190 USD directly from GW US (aka instead of finding something cheaper for the first three tanks), you would probably save a good 39 dollars ordering from somewhere else.
