How do you guys make your eyes? im getting sick of it i keep mesing up and once ripped off the head of the model and put a new one on ;p anyone haves some tips for making good eyes for my space marines? <_<
Depending on which colour you want the eyes to be there is an easy way of doing it.
What I do is that I carefully paint the eye areas black after filling in the 'crack' areas with watered down black wash. When it's dry I paint the eyes red (making sure that there's still a black rim surrounding the red area. This is important because the black provides the shade and enhances the red). Finally I add a small dot of a brighter colour (in my case Bronzed Flesh) to the red area to give the impression that the eyes kinda light up or are made of glass.
This works well for me. If you want even more detail you can experiment with using the 'gem technique' often seen on GW minis where one part of the eye is brighter and one is darker and they kinda 'blend into eachother' in the middle. Then you add a tiny white dot to the dark part giving the illusion of a see-through 3D gem or in this case helmet eyes...
I hope you got the point... It's kinda hard to explain...
thx alot.. ill try that ;p it just gets annoying messing up the eyes.. I like 2 make my models look perfect even if its not that noticable.. ^_^
no, no, no well done eyes can really carry a mini, I use the gem technique in white dwarf but Bobohats technique sounds like it could provide some really good results, experiment you'll find something that works.
When painting red eyes or any other eye colour for that sake, fist adda tiny blob of white before you paint the red, this will make the red colour stand more out and if perfect give the impression that the yes are glowing.
The gem idea is good to but it might take some time to fulfill, but then again if you want a model painted to mint grade than that is a price to pay.

It depends on the eyes thatyou are painting. If you mean the eyepiece of a marine helmet, try the following:
Base the area with white, then paint red gore. carefully apply some thinned brown ink to the back third of each eye. Then highlight the front end with a VERY light drybrush stroke of sunburst yellow ( practically NO paint on the brush). This gives a gradual transition from a light front of the lens, to a dark back of the lens, which gives the whole thing depth.
For eyeballs, try a steady hand, or try painting the eye balck and adding white to the edges instead.
