So I need some sort of model to represent Flamers in my counts-as Tzeentch Daemon army. The theme is that it is a rapid strike army using teleporters.
The bulk of the army is going to be Steel Legion as the Horrors with the missile launchers are Bolt. I've also got a separate thread where I'm converting Defilers/Sentinels into Soul Grinders.
But I'm really having inspiration problems lately.
I've been kicking around ideas for the Flamers, but the hardest part is that they are jump pack infantry and have two wounds, which means I can't just use a guard model with flamer for the job.
My ideas as of late:
Tau Drones somehow Imperialized with an under slung flamer
Servo Skulls with Flamer
A squad of Catachan Heavy flamer models lead by a psyker (to represent the flying aspect, but the wounds thing is a stretch)
Seraphim with flamers (two wounds thing again)
It is hard to use an existing model for this since it makes it hard to not cross the line into "proxy" vs. "counts-as"
I like the servo skulls the best so far since it is believable as a counts as. I just have no idea how to make a servo skull look beefy enough to carry a flamer.
The easy (and VERY expensive) way out would be to buy 9 Culexus heads, but I'm not that nuts.
Ideas? Got a better counts as idea? A great way to model Servo Skulls?
Buy a pack of green stuff or procreate putty and sculpt some heads youself, if you cant do this I would suggest sculpt it to look liked masked skulls like the video game characters in Army of Two wear. Google it if you dont know the game I mean!
I don't know what your price range is, but you could use fantasy marauders, with catachan heads or sculpted heads, flamers, and then get some of the Pegasus wings.
The marauder bodies are huge, and well muscled, compared even to a catachan. The pegasus wings are feathered bird wings, and if mounted "upside down", their curve makes flying models look like they're backwinging to hover or rise off the ground.
This gives you a bulky, muscular (2wound) model with wings (jump infantry). The flame thrower is up to you.
Well, I do want to keep my budget down since I want to save up for my Valkeryie airwing in May.
The Marauders might bear some inspection. I'm going to probably need 3 squads of 3. But I don't want to do wings as that is a mutation my Inquisitor wouldn't like. *Checks his first post* Ooops, forgot to mention that this is a rapid IMPERIAL strike team. Even my rogue trader would avoid the use of mutants.
I was going to put jet packs on ogryns since I own 10 of the old metal ones, but it just doesn't work. Too big. Too doofy.
Might be possible to mount the flamer nossle in the mouth of a servo skull, with the fuel pack on the back. I haven't got my skulls to hand to check sizing though, they may be too small.
An idea for this would be to take a form of ad mech support. So if you model something , "unhuman" like, you can state it as a servetor of some type.
That might open up other avenues of converting for you.
Also you could try space marine parts with catachan or cadian parts to create the look of heavy jump troops with flamers.
