So today while playing 40k the group that I play with randomly started talking about the Blue man group. And the lightbulb clicked, make a space marine army where none of them are wearing helmets, they're all the various bald heads. Take bolt pistol and chainsword hands and give them drum sticks, and various PVC pipe contaptions.
Now since armies need 3 colors to be playable my idea for that was blue flesh, obviously, and blue hands. With chaos black armour highlighted shadow grey. The instruments being a variety of colors. Like some of the old plastic oil drum 40k bitz I have lying around to be primed black and then the top painted, yellow, pink, or red like in the BMG show.
There's so many different possiblities with it! I was wondering what you guys thought about it?
Well that does sounds like a strange idea.
Maybe you could do a demo model and show us what you mean.
Cos it sounds to me like you are planning on do blue skinned space marines who bang there drums with chainswords.
I AM BOOMER!
I almost think IG would be better than the bulky marines, but I still like the idea.
Only thing that jumps out at me is that Blue Man group, in addition to blue makeup and black clothes, are also known for being expressionless. The SM bare heads are NOT expressionless. That could be a problem. You might consider getting some expressionless bald heads from other ranges, WHFB, etc.
Still, I like Blue Man Group very much (saw them once in Las Vegas years ago), and the PVC pipes and drums would be fun to model.
If you do this, some quasi-comic stuff would go well, such as a drum with a head bursting through it, or legs/arms/heads/whatever protruding from abstract shapes or something. It would be a good idea to go dig up some promotional photos and in-concert pictures of them for inspiration. Some of the print ads I've seen for them show them in silly positions that might provide some great modeling ideas. I say PHOTOS, because some of the stuff they do live, while funny in person and in motion, won't translate well to the static model form.
When I saw them, they also had a band dressed up in day-glo neon clothes and makeup. You should consider them as a "counts as" unit of some kind.
Pardon me, while I go practice that oh-so-kewl guitar riff!
It sounds good but i think the idea of battle musicians fits in better in fantasy battle rather than 40K.
I too have seen the blue man group in Vegas and as was mentioned they are creepy and expresionless. During one show the guy sprinted THROUGH the audience by stepping on the backs of peoples chairs and eventually stopped on the row in front of me rested his arm across his knee and just stared at this person for about a minute. They are cool, but strange!
No photos yet, as said idea just came to me. I'm in the process of thinking what army to start in WHF so I'll definetly take this idea into consideration, or use their heads for a new IG army (when they finally come out!)
I'll be having fun with wire, plasticard and greenstuff!!!! Also seeing as how I work for dentist I figure I get some really thin surgical tubing, and dental dams. I already use the drill to pin my models
I scouted for truly expressionless typre faces and the only ones I could consider roughly expressionless was that of the space marine terminator sgt. bald head. The other canidate I managed come up with was the catachan models. They wear bandanas but I fil or a little grrenstuff could fix that I assume. All on a cadian body I suppose....
Any possible bitz ideas/what you think etc.?
