Well there is a local painting competition going on april 25th at my local hobby store, and i was wondering if you guys could give me some pointers on what i need to learn in tha time frame. I do want to place, and im a decent painter, however the competition is timed! It is 1 hour to paint 1 imperial guardsman, with noi basing unless you want. Ive never painted imperial guard and dont even know where to start....Plz help!
Since you say you are already a decent painted I doubt theres much you could learn to put into a 1hr speed painting other than practicing to get faster.
I would say practice getting faster...
You can make some really great blending effects by not letting paint completely dry - so maybe focus on this...
If you are going to be using washes, bear in mind they take a bit longer to dry and mite restrict what you can do...
If you get a chance, have a look at the how to paint citadel miniatures book - there is a step by step on a guardsman that may provide some inspiration...
Hope that helps...
add another say to PRACTICE TO GAIN SPEEEED!!!!!!!!!!!!
i just yelled that while typing it i hope your happy(also good luck)
Are the figures primed? You could do something like dark grey for boots, dark olive for the fatigues, bolt gun metal for the guns and then wash the entire figure with Badab Black. While that's drying, do your flesh tones. once the wash is dry, highlights to those pieces and then do some slight highlights
