    Grey Primer?

I was just wondering if anyone could suggest a brand of grey primer to use on my models? Preferably in the U.S., of course.

I've painted some Raven Guard Tactical Marines up by priming them black, going over that with black, then using grey to highlight, but I'm not a huge fan of how they turned out; so, I wanted to try starting with grey on the models, then washing them with black until I get something I like.

Before I invest in the full can of primer, though, I was also wondering if a good way to test this would just be to paint a model completely grey, then go from there? I assume so, just want to make sure.

    Any help would be great.

I use Tamiya Grey surface primer, it works really well, and im pretty sure Tamiya is a world wide hobby brand so you could probably pick some up at your local model shop or something, Do you need pics?

Board to Pieces makes a grey primer, and they are US based.

Army Painter also has a grey primer that you can get from the Warstore.

I've had good luck with Testors, and they come in small, cheap cans, so if you find you don't like it, the investment won't break you.

This was before I swore off spray primer for good, mind you.

i use Rust-O-Leum brand car primer (grey) and love it and will use NOTHING else. Here is why:

    1. it's car primer and sticks to everything! plastic, metal, resin it does not care!
    2. even though the can says otherwise you can use it when it is cold out. i used it under 40^ and it was fine
    3. you can use it in 90% humidity with no problems
    4. you can prime in the wind no problems.
    5. even if you prime a bit heavy it will dry smooth and your loss of detail will be very very minimal.
    6. all you have to do is get grey on your model and you are good, really, no fuzzy models like GW primer, prime when others cant!
    7. it costs....under $4 a CAN! and you can get it at Walmart, Lowes, Home Depot.

use it and love it, it will love you back.... long time too.

GW used to have a grey spray paint called Ogre Flesh... You might try that...

GW has long abandoned their color primers. Space Wolves grey, Ultramarines blue, Dark Angels green, Blood red and others have gone the way of the dodo.
