Okay, with my former plan of a Lamenter's army being possibly canned, I'm looking for other space marine chapters to paint, (which include, but are not limited to: Space Sharks, Exorcists, Red Scorpions, or Praetors of Orpheus).
Praetors of Orpheus seemed to catch my eye more than the others, being somewhat SMurfy, but not the standard Ultramarines, there's a catch however. I've no idea how to work white. Regular highlights won't work on it, so am I stuck using gloss varnish? or should I base coat it all a light grey then paint white over that? What about highlights?
As you can see, i'm at somewhat of a loss (i've never painted a predominantly white army before) and any tips or tricks that might help would be appreciated!
A common practice is to basecoat Shadow grey then go with 50/50shadow grey astronomican grey, then astronomican grey then white (try a P3 white they go on better)
as to how/where to put them on treat it like zenith/directional lighting.

There is a great tutorial by Minus_t on white in the tutorials forum. here But in essence, don't go up to pure white, otherwise you cannot highlight. Use a light grey, an almost white as your main colour.
I like to use several layers slowly working to white. The key is to use very thin layers in order to achieve a smooth transition to the pure white highlight.
1 layer of Codex Grey
1 layer of Fortress Grey
1 layer of Fortress Grey/Skull White (50:50 )
1 layer of Fortress Grey/Skull White (25:75 )
2 layers of Fortress Grey/Skull White (10:90 )
2 layers of Skull White
Remember, thin coats and above all: Patience! The last thing you want to do is to slop a little too much paint down and ruin two hours of work.

O.k, these models WERE NOT PAINTED BY ME.
But they do look outstanding,
The painter then explains how he got his white so white.
'' Some guys at ATT and WIP asked how the white is done, so if it helps;
- Spray Skull White - 2x (this dfish used half a can...)
- 2 Coats of Morrow White (P3 Paint - think of it as a GW Foundation White - If they made one.)
mixed with 50/50 Floor Polish + H20
- 2 Coats of Skull White mixed with 50/50 Floor Polish + H20
- Codex Grey in armour recesses.
- Touchups w. Morrow.
It is labour intensive! ''
I think you have to be a really good paint to pull this one tho!
I AM BOOMER!
Damn, those look awesome. White has always been a tricky color for me. I may have to try that recipe myself for some power armor I may be working on soon.
