As the title suggests this is basically a thread to discuss GW's book entitled, "How to Paint Citadel Miniatures".
I saw this in a local shop recently and it looked like it had some good information in it...but I wasn't sure if I wanted to pay $25 for it.
So I went on Ebay and bought one for $15.50. Seems like a pretty good deal...but as I was flipping through it, I noticed the "Step by Step" tutorials in the back seem different. The one at the Local store had an Ork Warboss, and this one had some WHFB Ork warriors.
So, I guess my first question is; Are there 2 or more versions of the HtPCM books? If so, is one better or a lot different than the other?
And in general, I just want to know what everyone thinks of the book. For a person who is relatively new to painting miniatures, it seems to be a really good book to get started with!
There's an old one with a gandalf model on the front somewhere and a new one with some of the new marines. I think the WHFB orcs are in the old one.
I'm gonna move this over to the main painting forum.
You're likely to get a much better response rate over there!

if you ask me, only worth the money if you have alot to spare. Everything in there is available for free and in most cases better tutorials imo on the internet. I'm sure even the book is...
Well, either way, I got one...though I'm sure it's the older version, so I'm not sure if $15 was quite the deal I originally thought it was.
Despite a lot of the information being available in free tutorials, it's rather nice to have it all in One transportable place...and there are a lot of techniques they break down step by step pretty nicely.
Also, I have found a lot of interested techniques and lessons that I have yet to find Online...
I'll agree also that its handy to have it portable. I usually paint at the desk of my computer or my 'work' (lol :p ) desk so don't have a problem with e-books etc
Is that in the New one or the Old one? I'm pretty sure I bought the Old one. It had the Marine front and center Like this How To Paint Citadel Miniatures (Games Workshop) - eBay (item 310133432637 end time Apr-10-09 22:25:53 PDT)
As opposed to this one How To Paint Citadel Miniatures (Games Workshop) - eBay (item 310133432637 end time Apr-10-09 22:25:53 PDT) , which has a High elf front and center, and some kinda dragon demon thing in the middle.
Not sure which is better, or if there is a huge difference between them. The one thing I know for certain is the Step by Step tutorials are a bit different. I kinda wish I had the new one, but the one I have appears to have some unique techniques in the back
