Think that this is the right place to put this,
It is such a big base and I really don't want to fill it with rocks or tree roots as they would technically destroy the chariot. But covering it with grass will look stupid, as would mud or dirt. Thought about a road but am not really sure how to go about that either.
I really don't know what to do and if anybody has any really good advice or pictures it would be awesome.
Use the fine sand, paint it with devlin mud, and then drybush the base with dwarf flesh, and it will give it a nice planes look to it, chariots were pretty durable, a few small rocks under them won't destroy a chariot.
You can put small spots of static grass in there too. Chariots would have been on the battle field along with the warriors so whatever you are using to base your other models, the chariot should be the same.
Just using grass or sand wouldn’t be any worse than having no base at all.
You could add a few arrows stuck in the ground and maybe add one stuck to the frame of the chariot to tie it to the base. Also broken weapons and armor could be used to add a bit of color to the basing.
I agree that you should avoid any large obstacles on the base, but smaller rocks would be fine too.
Just raid the old bitz box for ideas. Or better yet raid a friends.
I've done a couple of chariots and the bases are the same as my other bases, yet they still look good on the large size. I just glued sand down, painted it up to look like earth, then glued down patches of static grass in various places, so it's roughtly 50% grassed. The patches of grass break up any monotony of the large base and make it look pretty good.
Thou shalt remember:
Warhammer Fantasy armies do NOT have Codices. They have Army Books.
