I would like to have some large ruined statues for my gameboard. GW has a few statues of marines with their sword held downward in front of their chest that has appeared in several WD background photos- they appear to be about 4 times larger than an actual marine.
Can anyone suggest a source of larger scale heroic 40k-ish figures that could be painted to look like a stone statue?
The Space Marine statues that they've featured in White Dwarf as terrain features are absolutely gorgeous. Unfortunately I'm assuming they were an in-house production that they made for their own uses, as I've never seen anything along those lines released before. I really wish they'd make them available, even as a Direct Only cast-on-order sort of item, as I'd definitely buy at least two, if not a couple more. They're badass. Same with the prototype Cities of Death building sprues that they also include in terrain featured in battle reports and ad splashes.
As to your question about statues, typically I've seen people either use an appropriately modelled regular figure, or they move up to the somewhat larger Inquisitor range to get larger models for their statues. Nothing like those nice Space Marine statues White Dwarf features, but still good stuff nonetheless.
"I would listen to Sokhar. The man's a genius. Listen."~Lord Yossanrion"Thanks, Sokhar. There was some legitimately good advice in between the low-grade profanity, blaspheming and veiled insults."~Quick"Well thought, intelligently put, with a hint of sarcastic bastard!"~Diggum's Hammer
I got an old sports trophy with a man on it from a jumble sale for 50 pence. I then removed all identifying features and put some bullet holes and war damage on the thing. Looks a treat. Its not a space marine but it's a good Upstanding Imperial Citizen statue!
Something like this does a treat:
Ok so that one isnt a sport one but you get the idea. The good thing is they already come with a good base on them!
You could try Forgeworld. They used to have (don t know if they still do) a line of larger showcase models which might be suitable.
Also have a look at the inquisitor range of models. I saw one of them converted to a really nice statue somewhere and I intend to make one myself. Not sure if there are any marines though....
hope that helps
The statue-marines you mention were an in-house thing made by some of the studio crowd. If you're skilled in that way then you could make your own. If, like me, you have your strengths elsewhere (its what I tell myself so I feel better) then you could look to Inquisitor. No sword-down space marines but a few models that could be used as statues. Random toys/models could easily be used as well - just look around your local toy store or hobby store.
