Today I have somewhat work on my winged hive tyrant. Still needs a fews layers of paint but that will be for next week
I am very satisfied with the result and I have recieved the question stating which Forgeworld model it is. Very satisfying for me and I was wondering how you feel about it.
the painting is below average, I suck at it and fully aware of it.
However, somethings can only be taught to a degree:-)
have a look and let me know what you think!
Also some pcs of my trygon and an old photo with all the models.

What wings did you use for your tyrant?
They look really great, and the weapon conversion is quite nice as well. Nice use of spare parts.
And now to erase your memory of this entire conversation.
Wundagore, I agree with you, the forge world Nids are beautiful models, I envy that you get to paint these not me!
On your painting, you have the grasp of edge highlighting but some of the details would benefit from a wash and other painting techniques.
Have a look through the Tutorials Forum and particuarlly Kuffys Basics Tutorial, which is great for those members who are looking to improve their skills!
Give me a message if you would like anything explaining.
All the best
Dude, that devourer rifle is EPIC!
The Great Plague meets The Devourer of The Galaxy. What does that make us?
Thanks for all the feedback.
And yes I agree that the rifle needs a wash to fill in the crevasses ( spelling ? no clue )
I tried one but it wasn't dark enough so you barely see if on the picture.
Still painting on the model, I currently highlighted all of the carapace and I did my second layer on the claws / brown.
Needs work but I like where it is going
Those are indeed the Balrog wings.
Very easy conversion aswell.
Just get a talon from a carnifex kit and pin it on top of the wing. Pretty self explanatory as you can see on the pic.
The wings also have a little plastic pin on the end. I removed this and replaced this with 3 rare earth magnets and green stuffed around it.
Above the magnet, make sure to leave a small hole.
On the tyrant body, I used 2 magnets to fill in the arm sockets and I drilled a nail into the body of the tyrant just above the magnet.
Green stuff around it. In this lump of green stuffed I put a extended carapace piece from the carnifex kit. I did this on both sides but one horn kept breaking off so I removed it all together.
Now you can simply put the wing in and make sure that the nail shoves into the hole you left in the wing.
The wings can now fully support the model and because of the pin, it doesn't spin around whenever it gets a bit moved. Also notice the tail, I thickend it with green stuff and added a Carnifex scythe tail.
For the devourer rifle. I do admit that was a stroke of genius.
Take a venom cannon, and a back piece from a carnifex, I used the smooth piece below.
Greenstuff the rifle in the carapace piece and make sure that the bottom of the carapace piece if filled up with green stuff. glue it in and make sure that these are solid.
Then use 2 normal devourers from the gaunt sprue and cut off till just behind were you have the 2 carapace plates. now glue the devourer in place next to the venom cannon.
You'll see 2 "holes" in the carapace and they fit in nicely there.
Then use the part for a barbed strangler, the arm with the big sac on it.
I drilled some wire into the end of the tube and lenghtend it with green stuff.
I also enlarged the sac with green stuff.
Then the final piece if just place another carapace piece on top. green stuff + glue on the edges and you're done! :-)
