Hey guys not sure if anyone saw my last model, but ive decided to have a go at people's advice, i applied the wash on the last model i showed you however because of the colour the wash had no effect due to the purple being such a strong colour and the wash not being as strong as it. So i went down the local hobby store picked up some warlock purple and tried again today. Tell me what you think/i could improve. Do you guys prefer the other one?
Maybe highlight up to pinks?
It looks like a pretty good foundation, but if that is as far as you go, I feel it will look too much like a rubber toy If that color purple is the color you like showing, then you need a deeper purple for the base.
Just my opinion..
Oh and the shield should probably be a different color than purple... it is becoming too overpowering.
Ah the shield is red it just dosent show up very well in this photo its red gore with a red wash over it .
You should try using the Brown wash over red on the shield, and possibly over its scales on its back.
Also I think rather than painting the model with a solid warlock coat. Try dry brushing it lightly, just to pick up the details. With the darker purple undercoat you could probably skip the wash.
I would also wash all the metals on the model with black, or brown. This will dull them a bit and give them a little more depth.
I think your base is solid, but with a bit more work on dry brushing and washes your lizards can really come into their own.
If you have any more questions let me know, I have a set of skinks sitting around and I wouldn’t mind doing a step by step for you.
Also MarxusTharin brings up a good point about the shield and body looking the same. Usually contrasting colors look better together and make the model stand out more. your scales are a good contrast to the purple, but the Red is too close to warlock purple, Maybe try a shade of Green?
just need highlighting mate thts all then it look sick
Heres how I would paint the skink in 6 easy steps. This only took me about an hour, and thats including all the picture taking and editing.
1. Black primer
2. Lich Purple base coat. It is ok to leave a little bit of black showing threw in the deepest details.
3. Warlock purple Dry brush. I like to do a heavier highlight on the face and hands to relay show off their features.
4. Scales: Marcharius Orange
Shield: Marchite Red
Weapon: Cathen Brown
Metals: Bolt gun metal
5. Scales: Delvan Mud Wash
Shield: Delvan Mud Wash (heavy)
Metals: Shining Gold
Teeth & Claws: Deneb Stone
6. Scales: Fiery Orange highlight
Shield: Red gore dry brush followed by a blood red highlight.
Weapon: Delvan Mud wash
Metals: Delvan Mud wash (heavy)
Teeth & Claws: Delvan Mud Wash
Eyes & tongue: Red Gore, small Blood red highlight.
Presto your done!. I painted the base with Graveyard earth and gave it a playground sand basing.
The clors show alot better in natural sun light.
Any questions let me know.
