IMO the issue is that it just looks like you stuck a plasma gun onto a bolter, and its way too tall because of that... try to trim down the bolter to around the barrel, and also you could try cutting the plasma like this: |_.----- to make it a bit shorter, while still allowing it to remain a bit longer than the bolter.
Marines - All built, 4/5 painted. Tau - 3/4 built, 0 painted. 'crons - 1/2 built, 1/2 painted.
I suck at staying on task.
I can't seem to be able to find it, but I'm sure somewhere on the site there is a guide to creating combi-plasma weapons! Have a search and see if you can come up trumps, as at the moment I think your conversions seem a little...'un-refined'. It looks like two guns on top of each other at the mo, I think you need to blend the two together a bit more...
Good first effort though, better than my conversions!
i would suggest using a plasma pistol model, cutting off the handle/trigger and using some green stuff to even that level out. then you mount it on the front-grip of the bolter infront of the magazine. may not be the "best" looking, but it should keep the gun from looking like two guns that were simply tack welded together.
I have literaly just written a combi-plasma guide myself. It may not be quite up to danjones standard, but it will be a lot easier to model into a non-termi fuigure such as your own. Check it out: Link
Its a bit big and looks like its got more than one charge of plasma in it, but I quite like it, and almost nothing looks too big for a marine. Pistol arts could be better, but I wonder if what you need is a plasma gun thats thinner, not shorter.
