OK...being the creative genious I am, I took a peice of styrofoam that was
padding for a computer, say you have a laptop; the styrofoam fits on the side..
well thinking and considering this odd peice, I went to work about it.

I got the main pad built off of some cd cases and a sheet of thick round
styrofoam. and connected the other large long rectangle peice to it. I got this
done and started painting. But ran into some problems,

Problem 1: Aerosol paint dissolves styrofoam!

Problem 2: Basing the cardboard warped the corners.

Set back I went about painting the normal way....citadel paints which ran into my fourth problem...I used up like 5 containers already.

Sitting here in my little world of paranoia I am reaching out for your help in
some cost effective methods of getting my landing pad completed.

Main question : What are some good bits to put around the bunker part?

that sucks. I use that pink foam stuff and the aersol can doesnt go ttheough that. Mabye use that next time. And use plasticard for your base, it wont curl up. Some cool things to be around it would be like ammo crates and boltguns and things like that. just check your bitz box

GW did a terrain builder thing in a white dwarf about their landng pad. they used necromunda bulk heads for the tower and bottom of the pad, with a bit round peice of pink stuff for the pad it's self. add a few this card peices for depth and you have a nice looking pad. I think GW's had fish tank plants under the main pad part sticking threw the bulk heads. It was based on a jungle planet. Might have a picture of it in the 3rd ed rule book ^_^

When painting terrain, the best thing to do is to buy some acrylic paint at an art store, and some big cheap brushes. Acrylic paints are very similar to GW paints, are cheaper and come in much larger pots. If you want to use aerosols you'll have to cover the styrofoam up in something first, like PVA or textured paint. This means you'll have to use a brush anyway, so I suggest you go for acrylics. Paint it the same way as models, exept you can skip undercoating.

Regarding the bits around the bunker, skeletons with guns is the deal, along with corpses of the races you and your regular opponents use. Sprue rubble is also good.

Sprue rubble is what you get if you take the frame plastic models comes in and cut it up into small brick like pieces. Quick, cheap, and looking good.

one last fortunate thing i ran into was the dissolved styrofoam put a nice texture to the buildig part of the landing pad when i drybrushed it. Any ideas how I can customize this bunker/landing pad to Tau?

Well I don't know make it roundish?

Ok stupid me just had to write that...
Ok here's the best tip (...and hint) I can give.
Back when the Tau were new to 40k GW made a battlereport in WD, featuring the Tau against the 'nids. They did have a really nice looking landingpad in one of the report pictures.
Ok unless someone else get's pics before me I'll see what I can put on the page by this afternoon, m'kay?

use Buckes and chop the top off and flip it over, Paint it. It does work pretty good and you can easily decorate the sides to make it look better! thats what i did

My 2 cents

Ps, the tau sues upturned buckets as well. Save you some time bro

That gave me an idea. An upturned bucket with a frisbee of the same diameter on top, and there you have it, a command tower!

Ok people sorry about that pic I "promised" <_<
For some strange reason my home computer has some real issues about knowing what "do something" means.

In other words, I can't get the pics on the net!

Ah well if you have access to some old WD you can find the pics in issue 263, I think it was like the august or september issue 2001.
