this is the base of a new gameboard im working on. is it balanced? unbalanced? completely retarded? just right? needs more? needs less?
any feedback is welcome.
I think you have the right amount of terrain, but you need a centerpeice.
I disagree- the bridges and river make a great center piece.
What particular system do you plan to use this for? If you're using it for fantasy, I think that it's pretty good as is. However, if you are using it for 40K, you are going to find that shooting will be very very powerful on this board. If the items that you've shown in the picture are all "fixed" to the board, you might also want to invest in some buildings and barricades etc.
its for 40k. i also noticed the advantage it would give ranged and have been trying to figure out what to add. the terrain is currently 100% moveable, nothing has been strapped down.
It is off to a good start but I feel that one of those corners should be a hill instead of a perfectly symmetrical bridge/river concept. And there needs to be small pieces of terrain on the widths for those advancing armies to get a cover save from.
what do you mean by "on the widths"?
Agreed with the notion that you need some smaller piece of filler terrain for troops to cower in in between the larger hills. Like some hedges or sandbag piles stuff like that. They also double as objectives.
But on the whole its looking very nice for cardboard and craft foam.
thank you for the feedback everyone!
tonight we did an official battle on the board, and despite my thoughts and everyones thoughts, the winner of the game BY FAR was CC units. the inability to move out of the large hills with any relative ease really hurt my eldar army.
it was rather enjoyable to fight on. i am planning on making a couple pieces of small terrain to dot the empty spaces with.
After looking at the picture of the board again, it really looks good. I would love to play on it or help to finish it but thats not going to happen. You might even consider getting one of GW's buildings and using it to make several low lying structure for figures to camp in. And yeah CC units can be a real bitch.
