been brushing up my skills, as some of you regulars may remember i'm a 30+'er just coming back to painting, last painted when i was about 15... but my son got me back into it after he found some of my old models (yes think MKI marines and squats). now intro over to my points
I have recently painted a few models up (which will be posted V soon as a "progression of a painter" thread... watch for it because it will be overflowing with love for L.O ... now i am happy with my blending, highlighting.... next to try my hand at NMM and some battle damaged models. Now i'm at this standard I'm ready to adress some of my oldie (1980's) models ( i felt the newer ones had a lot less "ooohh... ahhh" factor)
couple of questions relative, is there a central reference point for some of the discontinued lines?? reason i ask is i have several heavy weapon squats who have misplaced their weapons ... i also have what appears to be a (metal) space marine scout, more than likely a Space wolf due to him not having a back pack and a big clawed skin over his shoulders.... the particular model has no helm.... and looks very indian in his apperance, don't know if anyone remembers/owns/seen one of these casts?? what i want to know is what the hell type of gun he's holding.... looks kinda eldar like in apperance.... i know the first thing you'll say is pic pls... will do tomoz, i just wanted to start it tonight so any advance knowledge will be gladly accepted..
also seeing as he is all gun related can i shoe horn him into the dakka comp.... pretty pls
Hmmm, I guess ebay might be a good source for vintage models.
I haven't really tried any NMM techniques myself so sadly I can't help you on that but as for damage models, perhaps. I'm running a thread for a FW Marine (see signature) and one with a normal scaled dreadnought. Since I've been using those models for weathering techniques, you can always pop by and see if you see anything you can use.
I'm not a NMM expert either, but the best advice I can give is a recent White Dwarf (the issue announcing the new IG codex) has an article on the subject that, frankly, goes into stunning detail for a GW article. It's still not a perfect reference, but it should be MORE than enough to get you started.
Good luck, and I'll look for your thread!
Totally shooting in the dark without a pic, but an 'eldar looking' gun on a Rogue Trader era marine is probably a Graviton Gun
Ifurita, thank you soo much for that link, just dragged me straight back... felt great, lots of omg i remember drooling over that models paint scheme... and not having the control/patience to do what i wanted to.... they seemed impossibly good back then, the wierd thing is since i picked my brushes up again, my (skll) starting point is much more advanced even though I haven't practiced on anything this small since.... amazing the patience age brings ....
Meph, I'm already watching your thread... some nice work going on there... you just want me to experiment and struggle on a small scale don't ya... me-o-joko ofc. thanks
I forgot my damned model this morning (want to take adv of excellent work design facilities 'oh ohh)... so instead i will half inch the camera tonight and finish em tomoz. instead i wanted to share some of my most prized oldies... well the ones i could find pix of anyways.... the marine still remains elusive, although when i looked at the merc shots he does look very similar... may even be a 2nd gen merc not marine...
These were THE marines that first got me into 40k.... i still have my neon painted pair.... i wanted to clean and re-do them but the nostalgia value is too strong..
The space dwarf has been my one of my overall fave's since i first saw it... so much that i spent two weeks paper round money on buying 4 of them if i remember right. .. can only find 2 now though ... also still have 2 of the orc with blaster (can't even remember buying those)
too many of these 'lil blighters WILL be painted up soon... due to size and personal appeal, a good 7 or 8 of this range still in great nick.
and lastly two old faves aswell... loove my IRN-BONCE the Squat and Inq.Augustus...
thank you again, I'm filling up here hehe.

these are items i STILL have... not need to get, just need to try and source/fit some weps to the lil heavy squats..
if i can actually get the models or camera in the same location at one point in time i will put some shots up.
always a happy painter i am, lot to learn and a long time to do it in so meh, mistakes are a step on the path to rightousness and oneness with my brush
Right on bro! I have quite a few ancient vintage mini's too, although they are packed in a box somewhere on my parent's attic. Even though newer models just look better in almost every logical sense. those old models just keep having a certain charm...
