I was browsing around looking for inspiration for a small project for when my exams have finished when i came across this picture (see attachment)
And I thought that they looked really cool, and not too hard to do (which is important as i havn't done any modelling/painting for ages).
Please ignore your gut saying "close combat tau, NEVER" as (at least for the moment) this is purely a project for its own sake.
So my questions are:
How easy do you think it would be to pull off:
- the guns? -look as though they are just pulse carbines with lasgun front ends.
- knife arms?- I've not worked with fire warriors- do the arms look like they've been repositioned?
- knifes- apart from the bonding knife from the fire warrior sprue, what knives do you think would look right and be the right size?
- lack of backpacks- what would you do with the hole on the back of the armour? just fill it in with green stuff?
And finally, painting- while i think they'll need a dark scheme I don't think I'd want to paint them all black as they are here.
I was thinking maybe something along the lines of CoolMiniOrNot - tau stealth suits by fidel01
-how the front half is done.
Thanks in advance,

THAT IS SICK ASS BRO! that is awsome !!!!!
Woah, Ninja tau. Thats awesome. That army must be fantastic.
-The guns are definetely pulse rifles with lasgun tips.
-The arms have been repositioned, but it looks like they have just been bent a little to look like they are gripping the knives.
-You could use the combat knives from Space Marines Tactical Squads and Scout Squads, they look about the right size.
-As for the backpack, you could put all sorts of stuff on there, maybe greenstuff over the hole and paint a squad marking or load it up with all sorts of ninja stuff, like grappling hooks or some other fancy tau stuff.
Add me! Let me know your forum name too! =)
I believe I've seen similar things done to count as Kroot, for folks who don't like Kroot models.
