Now I plan on taking one cause hey tactical nukes are awesome, but this isnt about the choice to take or not. Instead of modeling a tank with a missile on it as in the picture in the codex, I was thinking of making a radar style tank based off a chimera tank. This is to represent a stock pile of ICBM's that can launch from far far away, with the radar tank guiding it to the very end. What's the general consensus here about that idea?
Mainly I want to do it cause I feel making a giant rocket strapped to the back of a chimera will be a paint to transport and very fragile. At least if I modeled it with the degree of details I normally do.
Thanks for any C&C.
I do agree, the deathstrike normally looks like the fireing of the rocket would destroy it, and why use a massive ICBM on an enemy that is 100 yards away?
What about forge world, most of their turrets seem to be modular, the radar dish for the air defense planrom is pretty much the same as the dish for the damocles command rhino ofr example. How about taking a chimera, removing and cvering up the lasguns and swapping the turret for the forge world air command dish or damocles conversion set?
Great idea much better than a ballistik nuke being fired a couple of meters. Using the forge world radar would look very good.
That was the plan, scratch build something to that extent. I jsut wanted to see if people thought it would be an acceptable model. I shall start on the build as soon as I get home.
That is an interesting idea. I think that a big radar tank directing in missiles would be cool. You will need to tell your opponent what it is but that should not be a problem. You could include other details like people working controls, talking to the launch site on a radio etc. You could have a screen and paint a pic of a missile there to show they are tracking and guiding it's progress. You could also show an image of a camera on the missile that shows it's perspective as it hurtles towards it's intended victims.
OMFG, thats brilliant. Now Im dying to do this project. Painting up the video monitors will make such a difference then just having a radar dish. Thanks a lot for that suggestion.
sounds like a smexy plan... love to see it come together!
Sometimes the best defense is a good offense... Wait, what?
What about having a C&C chimera with a large trailer being towed behind with the deathstrike missile loaded on it? That would make more sense, and provide lots more modeling fun! Yippee!!

I like the idea of a radar guiding system. Makes a lot more sense than launching an ICBM 100 feet, defeating the purpose of the IC part of it. You could paint a "tracking screen" with a solid path traveled, and a dotted path to travel, for some reason when I think missile control thats the first thing that pops into my head =D

Marines - All built, 4/5 painted. Tau - 3/4 built, 0 painted. 'crons - 1/2 built, 1/2 painted.
I suck at staying on task.
Yeah the radar tank stays for now. My plan is to get some chimera track wells and scratch build the rest. Im going to have it set up like a basilisk or griffin with the back end of the chimera dropped down and open. Thats where Ill make the little screens and put some figures coordinating the strike. Ill draw something up and post it in a few.
**LATER THAT DAY
SO yeah thats the idea. Couldnt find the pen for my tablet so I had to draw it by hand with a mouse >.< I get home from college this friday and thats when the build will begin.
