Holy Grail quotes aside i was wondering if someone could point me in the direction of small scale plants for my IG bases. Im going to gradually build up a Elysian Drop Trooper guard army and id like to use some small plants for some of the bases (such has heavy weapon teams and sniper team etc).
Any help is much appreciated.
Aw, phooey, I was hoping for a Monty Python thread.
"NO ONE expects the Spanish Inquisition!"
"Bring out your dead!" *clang*
"IIIIIIIIIIIIIIII'm a lumberjack, and I'm okay!"
"This bird is no more! It has CEASED TO BE! It's EXPIRED and gone to meet its maker! This is a LATE PARROT!"
Seriously, are you talking about REAL plants? I think you'll have a hard time finding something the appropriate size AND scale ("Colonel! Look at this strange flora, sir!" "Why, it looks like a daisy, but it's... 20 meters tall! Confound it, the Tyranids are invading, and have infected the plant life! Raise the alarm!")
The only thing I can even think of that would work are Bonsai trees, and shaping them correctly is another art and hobby all to itself.
Now, if you're just looking for fake scale plants, well, there are lots of things like that available at hobby stores, and I don't mean GW. I mean actual hobby shops that sell model trains, dollhouses, stuff like that. Most of those places either sell or can get you artificial "landscaping."
An even cheaper alternative might be a pet store. Look in the aquarium section. Plastic plants are cheap, and can look pretty cool in the right context.
....erm....real plants? you're kidding right? they'd die.
Anyway, do you know of any hobby places in the UK that sell them? A website perhaps? :p
Just did a quick search and i think ive found the perfect shrubbery!

I've used aquarium plants to great sucess with my Tau. Just cut them up and if need be, paint them a little.

Poke about and you should find a model shop of some sort. They even have a model shop in my part of the UK and I live in the bit populated by primitives and savages. There are often bags which have moss or shrubs treated with chemicals so it won't rot. You can use this and break off a chunk. Glue it to the base and it will look like a shrub is growing there. You can also sniff about in a park or your garden and use small dead twigs to add more to it. Just glue them down flat and they will look like logs compared to your Guardsmen, not Tyranid infested giant daisies. Peppercorns and other tough but small things like nuts will work too as big seed pods or fruit if painted brightly.
Canew, were you sniffing your model glue again?
And in all seriousness, look at model railroad stuff.

Model railroad stuff and dried herbs!
Got a "good" rumour from a GW staffer? Forget about it, LO'ers know more than any random GW shop staffer.
