I like the black, makes the model stand out more to me. I prefer when it looks like I spent some time on the base.
However, I think the majority of people prefer to have it somewhat match the basing of the model itself to have it blend better so it doesn't look like a "based" model. I too appreciate this aspect, of it blending in with the environment, it gives the cinematic feel of a diorama.
Sorry, not trying to waffle back and forth, but its really how you want them depicted. My vote still goes for black.
I don't have a dedicated board and where I play there is quite a variety.
The earthly tone contrasts to the harsh white and red of the miniature, as well as helping it to blend in with your wooden table!
The black looks good to, it makes your miniature stand out more - your eyes arent drawm to the base
For get your Mr T, John Mayer leaks pure awesomeness with every note he plays.
I would go for brown on your base just because thats the colour of the base. id have black on everything else.
I think brown. The black rim of the base seems to fit in with the colour scheme in that it is actually acting like it's part of the model. The rim of the base may be best not interupting the model. The brown one seems to work better as it doesn't draw attention form the model itself. I use black because I want a dark look on purpose so my bugs look bad. I think black may only interfere with your model here, not compliment it.
From what I can see in the photo, I might go for brown if they are to be standalone minis.
All in all, though - I much prefer black for the bases of all my minis. Black pretty much goes with everything, and as Xpyre35 says, it makes the model stand out more.

Also, you should google "garfield minus garfield". Awesome.
I like the black bases, gives a nice contrast against the white of the armour.
I prefer black. For some reason I like how it draws attention to your paintjob. Not to mention why paint something brown, green, or whatever because of the board you are playing on... the minute you use a different color board there goes the "realistic" quality anyway...
To me black just looks cleaner.
