Don't get me wrong, I love the chance to show off my limited freehand skills on a nice banner on top of my champions of chaos but today I had an idea.
Instead of having a banner to designate the squad has an icon, how about the champion of the squad has a big red chaos star painted on his armour, reaching his limbs and showing his devotion.
This works well for me in a few ways.
1) more room in my case for models
2) i want a greater daemon to possess a champion, this way the champion himself is the dedicated one
3) i don't have any banner holder arms
4) it should look cool right?
Here is a quick paint-over of my "scheme"
Would this at all be legal in a tournament? or even be acceptable in friendly games without too much complaining?
1st I agree, the banners are pain in the neck
2nd When You lost the icon bearer, You lost the icon and the benefits, so when You get the daemon in, the IoCG is gone
3rd Any stretched arm will do, just cut off the weapon, even the SM grenade arm can do
4th Yes, it can look cool!
I do not know about the tournament...
You can use magnets, and can change the arms. Also, You can make only icons and change them.
And You can make one arm, drill a hole thru the hand and a bit into the base (not thru) and everytime, you just put different banners or a ccw if You will not want icon. (like lego)
With these You can have easy to fit icons. Any kind of icons.
All very valid points. I guess I didn't remember that the icon bearer can die, I've never actually used an icon bearing model in the past because I thought that the whole squad had the icon, not one model specifically carried the banner, even though it clearly says it.
I've never really used the icons until recently when I decided I need to take some in order to use my daemons
I've done the hand drill hole thing with some chosens I had but it's a fickle system as my banner poles are fairly thick and they can barely fit into a terminators hand.
Sticking them on the backpack I think is the best idea if it comes down to it.
What about temporary pinning for the arms? You could stabilize them easily enough and paint the icon so it makes sense. Could you also brand the icon of chaos on the mini? Heat up an exacto knife and cut the design onto it? Otherwise, excellent idea.
