I have gotten a large chunk of my Tyranid army finished and I wanted to see what people think about the paint scheme and their overall look. What should I do to make them look really good? Without further ado, here is my army: Broodlord: Hive Tyrant: Warriors: Raveners: Guard: Zoanthropes Carnifexes: Genestealers: Rippers: Hormagaunts: Gargoyles:
I think you have the colours you like sorted out which is good. I think that what your Bugs could really benefit from are some ink washes. The inks will give them some depth. The inks will work quick so you won't have to feel like you are repainting your entire swarm. The areas like the eyes and teeth also need sorting out as well. You should shade the eyes with black. The teeth really need some work because there is no shading on them either.
What kind of wash do you think I should use? I like the shading it could give me but I do not want my nids all shiny.
Try the Devlan Mud wash, it won't dry shiny and if it does, you can always use a matte sealer on it. I use my own mix of Liquitex paints to achieve the same effect. Given your colors, you could give each figure a full body wash. It would help give your figures some depth and definition.
Here's a step-by-step I wrote up on my Tyranids that will illustrate what the wash does

Thanks. My only concern is that devlan mud will make them too dark. Is this the case? Your mixture seems to be pretty good, but can the mud wash achieve a similar amount of depth without darkening the models too much?
You should have tons of extra head and arm bits you can test the techniques out on.
im sad about that guardian, but oh well, its only a guardian
