Sorry if this has been asked before, but how do you make a custom wash? Is it "just" a small amount of paint with a slightly larger amount of water or? And what's a glaze and how do you make one?
To get decent results making a wash with paint you need something to break up the surface tension a bit so that it doesn't puddle and leave rings. Future Floor Wax (also branded as 'Pledge with Future') works extremely well for this. 10-20% FFW in water and then thin the paint to wash consistency with that.
Glazes are made by... adding Glaze Medium! Vallejo Model Colour line includes a glaze medium that works quite well straight or a little bit diluted. You can also get Liquitex Acrylic Glaze Medium at any art supply store, but will require some experimentation to get the thinning right to combine with hobby paints.
A glaze is sort of like a wash but even thinner, and you paint it evenly over the entire surface instead of glopping it on so it pools in recesses. The purpose is to add a slight tint evenly to the entire area, rather than shade specific areas.
Cheers for that, gonna have a look around tomorrow
