As an admittedly mediocre painter, I am forever asking others, "Hey, how'd you do that? What colors did you use?" I also read guide after guide, both professional (such as in White Dwarf) or online (here and other painting and modeling forums).
Reading all that stuff, I frequently come upon references to Vallejo's game and model color ranges, while others cite Citadel's range. Now, I shop at a couple hobby stores, and none of them carry all those ranges, which is frustrating enough, but even once I've found a range I like, I'm forever asking myself, "Hmm... I wonder what the model color version of that is?"
Well, in a fit of frustration I exercised my Google-Fu and found this (Clicky!)
As you can see, the blogger has no idea who made this originally, and had to go to the Wayback Machine to find that. In case some of you are reading this thread some time after I post it, and for some reason the link is dead, I've taken the liberty of transposing the info in the chart to this post in the hopes of offering it as a service to those who are trying to work out how to get "the Vallejo version" or something in the Citadel range, or otherwise trying to work back and forth between ranges. Using the numbers on the Vallejo paints will make it easier to order online, if that's your thing. It's important to note that, for those of you who are new to the Vallejo ranges, the "model color" line is NOT limited to what you see below. These are just the closest approximations that the model color range has. In fact, there are dozens MORE model color paints that have no equivalent in the other ranges listed here.
Naturally, the list below has no color chits, but I'm guessing if you need this list, you probably already know what the colors look like. I'm happy to update this with Reaper and P3 paints, if anyone can verify what the equivalents are beyond a mere "wild guess."

If there's enough interest, I'll have this stickied or linked.
Well there's interest from me!
It has come to the point where I 'm gonna have to make the switch to Vallejo, as they are lower in cost(especially in the long run) aaand have a smaller diameter base I can fit more on my paint shelf!
Cheers for this
wow, thats pretty useful!
For get your Mr T, John Mayer leaks pure awesomeness with every note he plays.
I'd just note that Model Colors were designed to fill in the gaps of the Game Color range, and expand on things a bit, so they don't quite match up with Citadel colors. The Game Color comparisons are much more spot on.
This is a very handy list, though. Great find! Let's see a sticky!
Not a bad idea. Good job.
Model colour also tends to be more "realistic" and muted in their shades. And the model colour range is massive. Most of them have no Citadel equivalent.
Camel is right, the colours from the model range have lots more choice, and I found tend to be a bit thicker than the game brand, so will need a bit more watering down than usual. That said, they are very good for getting that perfect shade you need.
Dakka Dakka has a paint compatability chart that is quite useful
