I am in need of advice when it comes to choosing a color scheme.
I realize that the first image has a rather questionably painting job, but please pay attention to the color scheme itself.
Nevertheless, which of the following color schemes is better? Is there anything I can do to improve my painting? I seem to have trouble with organics.
The following are Spinegaunts:

The second colour scheme is better but still looks a bit like an explosion in a paint factory. I think you need to use less colours on that bug. Inks can help you to achieve a good look for organics. The ink will fill in the detailed areas and make it look organic. Drybrushing can also help. I like the wings on the head of that Gaunt, it looks interesting.
I agree about the explosion of color. I will refrain from using any red on the wings, at least for gaunts. Also, I guess I could apply more brown wash in order to improve the organic look.
On second thought the first paint job is terrible.
I think the second scheme is new and quite brilliant - especially the brown spots. Go for it! The first scheme isn't as good, as it's pretty much one colour, making differentiation between parts of the model difficult.
Go with the second scheme. Flashy bugs are always deadly >.<
