So my friend's birthday is coming up, and I'ma whip out a Daemonic Standard Bearer for his legion. I'm going to use this as the mount, and the standard is no problem, but I can't think of anything for the rider. Suggestions?
Henceforth no man shall set foot upon the world, and all around shall be set sentinals to ward away unwary spacecraft. We must accept that this place is lost to us forever, and is now the eternal habitation of abomination.

You could use a bloodletter champion. If you could bend the legs so they would sit around the steed and change his axe head for a banner pole he could look quite good. Also if he is not Khornate then it should be no problem filing off the Khorne glyphs and painting him a neutral colour.
A Promise to a dead man means nothing.
It would realy help to know what god his army is devoted to.
If it's Slannesh, then the mounted deamonet would be great.

Yeah, we need to know what kind of army it is. I'm guessing it's for a Khorne, Nurgle or undivided army, as I wouldn't use it for a slaanesh or tzeench army. I think you should use a beastman, to fit in with the bestial look of that mount. You could make the beastman look daemonic by painting him in unnatural colors(purple, blue, red etc.).
