Welcome to Librarium Online!
So After a tournament this sunday i'm going to start working on my vietnam themed badachans. But while painting, list building, and play testing ideas have still been bubbling in the old brain. Like making an M113 APC, I'm thinking about tinkering around with a Rhino, do you think that would work, not to mention would you allow it in a game? I'm very deep in though on how to alter the Rhino as there's no way a chimera would get close to looking like that!
I'm using Valkeries as my "huey helicopters" And since a valkerie isn't a helicopter just do some cool paint stuff/have guys standing in the doorway operating "M-60" heavy stubbers. Maybe find some of the old catachans who sat on tanks to sit on the edge (like in the movies). I'm thinking of just putting track guards on my russes to make it look more like, a modern day tank (without giving it completely new treads) I'll only be using Tanks like the regular russ, punisher, vanquisher, and griffon as they are all similar to various vietnam tanks (its a stretch but hey the game takes place in 41st millenia not the 60's). Any conversion recommendations/thoughts? Many thanks in advance as I need the help.
I think it would be fairly easy to turn a Rhino into something similar to above. I'm sure there is a picture out there somewhere of a conversion someone has done similar to what you are saying. I'll keep looking!...
Here is a link to a thread on here with some Vietnam style Guard: Link
From this picture, I think it would be a fairly easy conversion. I'm sure there are kits about for this model, just exchange the tracks onto a Rhino, that would give you a good start I should think...
EDIT: Not the one I was looking for, but here is one conversion:

You could mix Catachans with Cadians to give them a Nam look. Often pictures of soldiers in Nam wear helmets but they don't wear as much armour. I suggest that you put lots of plants on their bases. You could leave a few areas bare on the bases and paint them brownish/green. Then apply a layer or two of water effects to give the idea of it being wet but with plants as in it's a jungle.
you may also want to find a way to make the heavy flak vest if the catachans dont already have that kind of armor. i dont know i dont use them, but from time to time you will find a cherry wear the flak vest, 2 helmets and iron underwear. for your veterans use tiger strip camo. also for veterans you can use a mix of weapons like lasguns, autoguns, and shotguns. if you wanna do something different i use some sub machine guns to spice it up.
sub machine guns also use shotgun stats without man stopper rounds. i how a post of some weapons i did for mying. heres the link http://www.librarium-online.com/foru...urrounded.html i hope it helps.

I am an Indestructible master of War.
Thanks for the input guys. I really like that rhino m113 however out of curiosity what about a salamander scout/clommand vehicle with the side plate (ya know the one that covers the wheels) removed. I havn't built a chimera in years so unfamilar with the logistics but a thought.
There is a badachan body with a flak vest, some arn't wearing shirts, others just have tank tops on. I figure its a good mix. I'll definetly put plants and water effects on their bases though!
Also I'm only giving the bald/mohawk heads helmets. Just to make it easier on me, but not to mention in the pictures I've seen not really everybody has one on, they didn't fit well and slid forward a lot!
Nam was mostly fought by teenagers. You could try to do something to make the Guardsmen look young. I'm not sure what though. You could also try to make them all look dirty to help show they have been out in the smelly, hot jungle all day. Stubble and muddy boots will help with that.
I'm doing this my self, going for the 25th Infantry.
For the troops I am using Catachans as they are, with the exception of grenade launchers: I cut off the barrel of a lasgun and replace it with a short stubby barrel to represent the M79.
Regulars get catachan green fatigues, and veterans tigerstripe and camou paint.
The vehicles require a bit more work:
Leman Russes will get som additions to look abit more like the Sheridan
I will use M113s with some conversions as Chimeras.
When I get around to it Hueys will suffer som serious conversion work to be used as valkyries
As crew I will use Cadians. White helmets for helicopter crew and green for tankers.
The sentinels (I can't go without them) will be used as they are.
