I've made some Herasy-era style helmets using old warhammer nights helmets and some green and grey stuff. What I'd like to do now is make some molds and cast a dozen or so.
I've bought some latex and was considering buying some resin but on the resin in the shop I noticed it said 'don't use for casting smaller than 3mm' - does this mean it's not suitable for the spiked bits do you think?
If anyone could recommend any products for this project (preferably UK ones) that'd be cool.
Anyway here's some pics...
Those are good looking helmets. Your Marines will be cool. Reppy for you. I'm sorry but I don't know about casting.
Great looking helmets!
I'm not sure what the crack is around here with regards to casting, as it's a bit of a 'no-go' subject, however, if you send a quick PM to 'Brother Argos', he might be able to help you as he has been casting some bits for his Guard force!
Haha those helmets look like the Castle Crashers character helmets. Nice though. Rep for you
Hey, thanks guys. Thanks for the rep.
Yeah I've done some heresy-era legs too, using super-glue for the sticking out bits.
As far as casting, I've found a really excellent company in the UK, Tiranti. Their technical support guy was awesome and suggested some good products. I also have a copy of 'The Mouldmaker's Handbook' by Jean-pierre Delpech and Marc-Andrew Figueres. It's typically french in style (seems like a somewhat average translation) and not too good at explaining things but it's very thorough. So between the book and the technical advice I should be ok. Stuffs in the mail - can't wait!
As far as the ethics and legality go... if this is for personal use and I don't try and sell it then personally I think it's okay. Where I draw the line is if I'm taking someone's copywrite models, duplicating them and selling them on for profit. However, I do intend to make origional pieces and maybe sell them, who knows... need some practice first.
